Thanks I have not studied the tournament myself but this should be good and important thread, hopefully many get involved I will really be more interested Scotland and England, I know Scotland won’t win it, but anybody have opinions on their chances on progression. England must be in with a shout must be looking to get to semi finals at least. GL anybody with a bet and opinions appreciated.

Going out on a limb with your Scotland prediction there Malay I don't see why they cannot progress from their group but then it's in the lap of the gods.
I think England have as good a chance as any so have chucked some free bets i have accrued here and there on them to win at 6s .
Many of the groups have long odds on shots but i will throw several darts at Paraguay , Bosnia and South Korea to top their groups, all about 7/2.
In the top goal scorer market Harry Kane is an obvious contender at 7s and Dembele at about 20s also appeals.

Top scorer market definitely intriguing. It is to note, an out and out striker has the topped the top scorer charts at world cups as far back as I looked. (Didn’t go past 90s). Mbappe 2022. Kane before that. Quite A few penalties. Find a striker who’s a penalty taker. Not backing Kane or Mbappe. Too short and can’t see either teams scoring loads despite the hype. Loads of hype coming for France again just like at the euros but never turned up. What’ll change this time? Martinez or Alvarez for Argentina for me at the moment.
More thoughts to come.

If all the bookies favs win the groups and you fancy England, England face either Japan or Brazil in the quarters (if they beat Ecuador or Norway). I do like Ecuador set up tho. Only lost 2 in qualifying against the top teams but scored the least. However... If you fancy England to go all the way getting past Japan(Netherlands) or Brazil, They will either play Spain, Germany or France in the Final. This is where more bang for your buck comes in to play instead of a punt on the single outrights. England 7/1 for example to win. You may aswell try a forecast at bigger odds. Forecasts. 1st England 2nd Spain = 33/1 1st England 2nd Germany = 50/1 1st England 2nd France = 40/1 1st Spain 2nd England = 25/1 Fav 1st Germany 2nd England = 80/1 1st France 2nd England = 33/1 Prices 365.
For me personally. I want a Spain Argentina final.
More to come.

Ive had a quick look at the winners of the Groups from a betting perspective.
Most have a short priced fav but Groups B , D and F may be worth a look.
In Group B Switzerland look to be strong favs at 1.90 in a weak Group. Back to win at around evens looks a decent shout.
In Group D USA look a lay to win it at 2.6. This is a tough Group which includes Turkey, Paraguay and Oz.
In Group F Netherlands look short at 1.90 the Group includes Japan, Sweden and Tunisa

Dixie Scotland have some good players they would not have qualified if they didn’t, they also have good manager, good team spirit. There is no Dalglish or Law in squad, but I think real weakness is central defence in possession or out of possession, you won’t need to press Scotland, just let centre backs have it cos they will give it away or put someone in trouble, perhaps the manager will have a plan to mitigate that. He’s getting paid good money to come up with it. Let’s see what happens Dixie.

Not sure what point you are trying to make abba21.
The last nine world cups played outside Europe have had at least one European team in the final (and as you say one had two European teams in the final) . So by that metric we can be confident that at least one of them will reach the final this time.
Eight out of the top ten sides in the betting are from Europe. The bookies are going 1/4 that a team from the UEFA confederation win it.

Next one. Ivory Coast v Ecuador. Ecuador had a great qualifying. Young fast team runner up to Argentina and only lost 2 games. But also scored the least out of the 6 that qualified. 14. But also conceded the least... 5.. against the likes of Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Uruguay.
Ecuador Win - 13/10 Ecuador to beat Ivory Coast to nil - 12/5 Ecuador to win and under 3 goals - 3/1 0-1 - 11/2 0-2 - 9/1

Hi MALAY. I see you have a soft spot for Scotland. Personally after that result against Japans 2nd team (although Japan are elite workers) the other month, one real chance at their home turf.. I can't see them doing anything, even nothing great against Haiti. McGinn, Scotlands best midfielder got dominated by that Fujita for Japan, looked lost. I do think they'll be up for the Brazil game, full of energy etc, but those levels won't be matched again I can just see it. It's going to be so hot out there. Loads of water breaks which is going to disrupt play sadly... Although Brazil will really struggle this tournament I expect, they didn't qualify comfortably. Scotland hope they're going to be one of the best 8 teams to qualify in 3rd place. They're going to need atleast 3 goals from somewhere to do that.
3/1 not to qualify

Let's not forget that Japan beat England 1-0 the same week as they beat Scotland, so puts things in to some perspective.
Always dangerous to rely on friendlies as a guide to upcoming tournaments.
On the cricket front Dragon, RCB are in the final after hammering the Titans today - still a chance both of your picks will contest the final. Hopefully not for my sake, as i'm on the Sunrisers

Great input NTC, appreciated definitely, agree with Dixie would not read too much into friendly internationals, most players don’t actually want to be there, unless you are want to impress somebody and get a big move. McGinn is in good form in competitive English premier league and Europa league, watching his recent matches, I actually think he’s much better player than I thought. Hopefully we can keep this thread going with interesting opinions. Thanks

hey Dixie -yes GT are by far my best result though as i also backed them at decent prices after their iffy patch.
Ive covered the bets with small obes on RR at 17 and Sunrisers at 7 so im green all over.
Got Gill to be top runscorere also - yesterdays failure didnt help but hopefully hes got to more innings to play.
shocked that RCB turned them ove so easily fielding was useless and bowling poor. Lets hope no damage done

My main bet is simple, if obvious...Spain to win outright at 5s, although I will be looking for daily boosts from the likes of baldyfred leading up to the tournament...Will probably push out England and hopefully Spain in the run up
Spain have simply got the best starting 11 and squad...given normal run of luck should come out on top
Gl all

I think people are sleeping on Japan a bit. Keep seeing "England lost to JAPAN?!!" They are no mugs and play together better than anyone. I think they will cope better with the heat than others, too, and will run a few teams into the ground. They do have a tricky group, but I think they progress, with 2nd place likely to see them face something like Brazil, Norway, England, Portugal, and then the final. Obviously, a hard ask, but they are 65/1. Will look around the secondary markets for some plays. No Mitoma is annoying, though.

For money buyers, the 2/5 (best price) and 1/3 (most places) on NOT a first time winner looks bombproof to me. In theory Portugal should be a possible danger to that bet but they will win nothing as long as they keep playing Ronaldo.
I personally think its between the top 2 - Spain and France, and this is the year when a European side wins away from Europe.
England should go well, but I thought they were drawn to face Spain in the quarters. If not, then they could easily make the semis.
Scotland will never have an easier chance to make it out the group, but will they ? They'll have to beat Haiti by a few and hope to avoid hammerings in the games v Brazil and Morocco. Goal difference will decide their fate I feel. Hoping they can do it but I won't have a penny on them. 1/3 to qualify ?? Not for me, thanks.
Agree with some of the other thoughts - Japan should go well and look value to win their group. Ecuador also underestimated and should qualify easily. The Yanks are a lay, deffo for the group win. Also think South Korea are better than the odds suggest.
Top scorer will be won by Mbappe or Kane - dutch them and you still have a decent price.

Yeah, looked at the Ecuador form and they've lost 1 in the last 21 games, which was a 1-0 loss to Brazil. That includes Netherlands, Morocco, Argentina, Uruguay, etc. They love a 0-0 and low-scoring draw. I think people see "Ecuador" and think "no chance", so there should be money to made laying favs against them

Looking at Austria. Some expecting to do well again. Arguably team of the tournament at the euros before they crashed out. Same system and management for them, but no strikers again. Bookies favs to come second to Argentina in their group. If I was Ralph Ragnick, you don't wanna be coming to second. If that happens they'll have to play Spain straight away in the L32. I'd play for a best place 3rd, and play Switzerland in the L32 instead. Won't be surprised if that happens. Only bet available for that is Argentina Algeria Forecast 11/5. Austria play Jordan first. They'll just want a comfortable 2-0 win to set their sights right

For worst bets one bookie offering a world cup special over 0.5 goals in each match , 33/1 , and i bet they get some takers , 104 matches and not a single 0-0 for 33/1

been a big move for Cape Verde to beat them in the group match over last few days and CPV likely to go off favs against them, and therefore the 'to finish bottom' market looks completely wrong

I've backed France to win the world cup outright a while ago when they looked a bit of value (not so much now), as a follow up I think Mbappe is a fair bet for the golden ball at generally 10/1
He won the the young player award in 2018, silver ball last time and now arrives here at possibly his peak age, I'm confident he'll have another good world cup and double figures is fair
He seems to be over his hamstring injury in April and it wont take much for that price to quickly shorten during the tournament

backed France at last Euros and didnt lift a leg especially Mbappe ( not sure whether Le Pens comments at time had something to do with it ) so going to see how start before contemplating getting mucked in. Otherwise Spain for me at the moment.

Who takes penalties for Spain and France.? I feel this will have a bearing on the golden boot. Obviously it is Kane for England, but I am not sure of the other two.

Best bet is "no bet". Best left well alone imo. And as for stats: Just looking at our lot, and I'm not criticising, what bearing could stats possibly have on England's chances ?
Just unplug your computer, take it round to your neighbour's house for safe keeping, get some help with the withdrawal symptoms, try not to think about it, and set a wake-up call for the final, then put your feet up, bust a tinnie or three, and enjoy.
Could look into one of those "crisis centers" I suppose. Reckon we all need to talk to somebody some of the time.

A particularly interesting angle is that Croatia, Morocco, Japan and Uruguay have all demonstrated they can beat elite nations in knockout football, which is usually the key hurdle between a respectable run and a genuine shock semi-final appearance.
My 4 to outperform their odds are Scotland (if Clarke takes the handbrake off this time), Japan, Morocco and Turkey.

Scotland are unlucky to play the so called minnows in the group 1st,you are better of playing them after other teams hove burst their bubble and softened them up with goal difference in mind for 3rd place. I think Morocco are a good bet to beat Scotland inside 90 minutes on June 19th at a touch over evens. I have backed Spain outright. Good luck with your bets and I hope we all enjoy the tournament.

Scotland also disadvantaged at being in an early group , which is why i have always been against the idea of best 3rd place finishers , the teams in the later groups in 3rd place will know what they need .

It was me that put up the no new winner banker for money buyers. 2/5 really looks value. Someone mentioned Portugal as a threat but they will win nothing while Ronaldo keeps playing. Holland are the only fly in the ointment I can see given their pedigree (in making finals at least) so the sooner they go out, the sooner you can start counting your winnings.
