Not sure about its accuracy Coogan (60 at the time of filming) is significantly older and, in the film's depiction, appears smaller than the real-life 43-year-old McCarthy was in 2002

It was watchable imo.

Yeah Crisp, Coogan much smaller than the actor playing Keane.
"...former player Kevin Kilbane who was part of the squad in 2002, criticised the depiction of the team's "fictionalised partying", commenting that the film "unfairly portrayed” Niall Quinn, and that both Fiona and Mick McCarthy were also given a disservice with McCarthy, far from being cowed, delivering the ultimatum that "either you go or I go, and I am going nowhere". Kilbane also noted the height difference between Coogan and McCarthy, saying that “Roy didn’t loom over Mick. Nobody did." |

Very good and well worth a watch.

Shows Keane's driven / obsessive state of mind, probably a good thing to have on the playing field. Not so much in social settings..

Key accuracy points include:
Fabricated Conflicts: The film portrays Keane attacking McCarthy for not being "Irish enough," a, storyline that is untrue. One-Sided Portrayal: The film is heavily biased towards Keane, portraying McCarthy in a comical, highly unprofessional light. Exaggerated Scenery: While some scenes accurately reproduce media footage, others—such as the extent of the partying—are deemed excessive.Miscasting: The casting has been noted for inaccuracies, with Steve Coogan (playing McCarthy) and Éanna Hardwicke (playing Keane) not reflecting the true physical presence of either man, which altered the perceived power dynamic of their confrontations. |
