they are so badly paid, they have to work as carpet fitters in their spare time, and they cut themselves sometimes with the stanley knives.

Its because someone thought it was a good idea to put your hand back and slap players in the face because they are such cowards playing football now they dont want to get tackled
Report lurka March 22, 2026 1:02 AM GMT
No, it's definitely not that.

Over-enthusiastic shirt tugging can result in strained ligaments and tendons.

Tuck a couple of cigarettes inside and light up during
goalkeeper time out.

Never shown on TV but a common sight for match goers.

Why do the morons have holes in the back of their socks?
They are mindless cretins
Report ----you-have-to-laugh--- March 22, 2026 5:21 PM GMT
Footballers cut holes in the back of their socks to relieve pressure on their calf muscles, improve circulation, and reduce fatigue during matches. The tight, compressive nature of modern, high-performance socks can restrict blood flow and cause muscle tension or cramping; cutting holes helps alleviate this discomfort.

Should just give up smoking.

Nothing beats a snood

The socks nowadays are nothing like they were 15 years ago. They are compression socks, supposed to improve circulation but do the opposite, all super tight and your calves feel tight just doing a warm-up without the shin pads in.

I'm amazed that more hasn't been made of this as every big brand is the same and it's almost impossible to find socks that are thinner and looser like they used to make, especially as nearly all fast or attacking pro players tend to slice holes to relieve the pressure. Very little about it when you search online and the media is quiet about it even tho it's so commonplace and obvious on TV.

Terrible for amateur players as they don't have fresh socks every game like the pros do and can't go cutting them up every week.

Used to keep socks up with laces as no elastic in top
because that cut out circulation.

Ended up playing more rugby than football, and got dreadful
circulation in lower legs these days after flying

Wear flight socks... Hmmm!... Better than swollen legs for 2 days though
Report lurka March 23, 2026 2:08 AM GMT
It's more elastine they need. They are about 3% now, used to be about 8 or 10% and thinner material. I have umbro socks that i bought about 20 years ago and didn't use much. But they only match one kit. Can't get them for the away kit. There are mesh socks on the market but I reckon they'd rip apart after a few games, very flimsy looking.
