6th home to 7th
Winners of those games play 2 legged semis vs the 3rd & 4th place.
An improvement IMO. Fewer meaningless games, and 7th/8th do have a tougher task as no home leg. Finishing 3rd and 4th now is significantly better than 5th or 6th.

a good idea, and maybe a fairer way, would be for every team in the league to play each other home and away, then the top 2 or 3, however many its decided at the start of the season go up? just a thought.
