Infantino thinks so and I'm inclined to agree, not that I have given it a lot of thought mind.

What does the forum think, and why?

Having awarded trump a peace prize, raised ticket prices
to new highs, and facing a mooted boycott of usa26
Infantino might be happy to get a few Roubles to allow
Russia back into world football.

They ain't very good, and apart from lev yashin never
have been. Does it matter from a football point of view?

Obviously there are political considerations too, but...

Russia ban "has just created more hatred"

Infantino also said: "I'm always against bans."
Russia have been exiled from international competition by FIFA and UEFA since the invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
That conflict continues - but Infantino says Russia should now be allowed to compete again.
Asked if the ban should be lifted, he said: "We have to. Definitely. Because this ban has not achieved anything, it has just created more frustration and hatred."
Infantino went on to say FIFA should look to change its rules so no country can be banned from competing.
"We should actually never ban any country from playing football because of the acts of their political leaders," he said. "Somebody needs to keep the ties open."

My guess is it was not the ban on Russia from international football that "created more hatred".
It was the invasion of Ukraine, the capture of Ukrainian territory, the killing of thousands of Ukranian soldiers and civilians, the systematic destruction of Ukranian infrastructure and residences by Russia that is the problem.

In July 2016, Infantino was interviewed by the investigatory chamber of the FIFA Ethics Committee on suspicion of breaches of the FIFA code of ethics.[47]

The investigation was focused on three issues: "several flights taken by Mr Infantino during the first months of his presidency, human resources matters related to hiring processes in the president's office, and Mr Infantino's refusal to sign the contract specifying his employment relationship with FIFA".[48]

Although a document was leaked describing illegitimate spending of funds by FIFA[47] the body's expenses and governance were not investigated.[48] The document alleged that Infantino had billed FIFA for personal expenses, including £8,795 for mattresses at his home, £6,829 for a stepper exercise machine, £1,086 for a tuxedo, £677 on flowers and £132 on personal laundry. In addition, Infantino demanded that FIFA hire an external driver for his family and advisors while he was away.[47]

When Infantino accepted special treatment by the 2018 and 2022 World Cup hosts (Russia and Qatar respectively), the potential for a conflict of interest was raised. The hosts had organised private jets for Infantino and his staff related to visits in Russia and Qatar.[47] The investigatory chamber was of the opinion that no violation had occurred. In addition, the chamber found that "human resources matters, as well as Mr. Infantino's conduct with regard to his contract with FIFA, if at all, constituted internal compliance issues rather than an ethical matter."[48]

While the investigatory chamber discharged Infantino, criticism of his conduct continued. Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, chairman of FC Bayern Munich, criticised Infantino for not fulfilling his promises regarding transparency, democracy and governance. "So far this has not succeeded in my eyes," he complained.[49]

In July 2020 further allegations arose when Infantino was accused of having a secret meeting with Michael Lauber [de], the Attorney General of Switzerland. Lauber offered to resign after a court ruled that he had covered up the meeting and lied to supervisors during an investigation by his office into corruption surrounding FIFA. Infantino defended himself, claiming, "to meet with the attorney general of Switzerland is perfectly legitimate and it's perfectly legal. It's no violation of anything."[

think its the invasion thats causes/d the hatred. Actions have consequences. Infantino makes Blatter look nearly honest.

Report sofaking February 6, 2026 4:19 AM GMT
Yes they should be allowed back in. Why wasn't the USA banned from international competitions after their illegal invasions of Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya etc. They've killed millions of innocent civilians but almost zero condemnation from the international community. Why should Russia be ostracised for far less serious atrocities??
Report jimmythewon February 6, 2026 8:53 AM GMT
The big problem with Infantino (and Blatter previously) is the total lack of willingness on the part of the FIFA constituents to do anything. MOst countries are happy to just pay their over inflated dues for him to plunder and to get FIFA to "organise" the World Cup (another startling success there). Let's say that all the EU countries plus UK and Brazil (and any others who want to join) said "We withdraw from FIFA until something is done" (maybe wait until one day after  the next WC final), would Infantino say "unfortunate but I carry on"? Would the rest of the world let him?

Yes because 1) we've just watched Israel kill more civilians in the first 6 months than Russia has in 4 years but crickets and 2) the exceptionalist hypocrisy of the west sanctioning anyone for invading another country with their track record. Always different when they do because they are Luke Skywalker and Putin is Darth Vader.
Report Winja February 7, 2026 12:29 PM GMT
sporting bodies would have to pay prize money if russia or russian teams was readmitted to competitions as thats part of the sporting structure but would then be legally blocked to make any due payment under current sanctions or require licences/exemptions which would expose a potential trap door for money transfers....so on that basis alone it would be impossible for russia to participate in any world sport....despite what another fifa monkey who has credibly been accused of misconduct says....
