It was let him leave, for a tidy fee, with one year remaining or let him leave for free. No brainer really.

Op, you must surely know that Spurs didn't just let him go.

Pay him to stay?

You honestly don't think they tried?
If a player if determined to leave, there's nothing a club can do.

Levy told Kane he could move to City if he stayed another year. Levy went back on his word, which made sure that Kane wouldn't agree another contract thereafter, although I very much doubt he would have anyway. After this Kane was itching to leave, even though he could have left, out of contract, one year later. He was that desperate to go.

To be fair to Levy, he struck an excellent deal, making Kane the biggest purchase ever in Germany (iirc). Very rare for such a large transfer to take place with just 1 year remaining.

Ok, thanks for that.  I had forgotten it.  It is praiseworthy how he has delivered over there for Bayern.  What a player and pro. he is.

He’s been an amazing player and a brilliant role model.

The man is a menace.
Best English striker I've seen.

Is that fact that he grew up an Arsenal supporter in your thoughts there Wes? Wink

Lol.
You know I'm very fair.
I'd have Gazza at no.1 for best English player I've seen.Cool

I'm with you there. A younger guy at my previous employment once asked of Gazza's ability. I told him exactly what you said. BS! he replied. Little do the younger generation know.

He was different gravy.
Could do the lot: dribble, pass, head, free kicks, everything.
As good as Messi for me but alas only for a very short time.
Not knocking Spurs, but imagine if Fergie had got hold of him (as Gazza had verbally agreed to).

Venebles was a decent manager to play for.

I think the damage was done to gazza long before he
played first team for Newcastle.

He really was a lovely bloke back then,

Kane has really improved for going to Germany..

... If he continues that improvement into world cup
things could get really interesting.

Loved Gazza.  Saw him take a Scottish Cup final by the scruff of the neck, totally dominate Hearts up-and-coming Alan Johnson ( went on to play for Rangers actually ) in midfield and orchestrate a 5-1 win.  Majestic he was.  He actually mock-clapped him in-play as he passed the ball backwards.  Totally overwhelmed the lad.  Couldn’t put him above Bobby Charlton though.  As much as I love him just couldn’t do it.
How many more EPL’s could Ferguson have won if he had got him?

to think, we paid £2m+ for him and sold him for £5m+

Scary

I'm genuinely not certain gazza would have coped
at man utd, at that time of his life.

Had he gone, and then coped, then man utd would have won more,

He was a very special talent.
