Just googled...it's "dark blue" apparently, looks almost black to me

They haven't changed their home shirts Reg, it is their 4th kit given an airing for some reason (something to do with the new owners), didn't do them any good
 Will be back in Royal Blue next time. |

Thats right Reg, blue is the colour for me ! They have to please the new owners of course but i don't like it , the commercialisation of the EPL knows no bounds.
A week off for the Gills this week but next door neighbours Chatham FC beat Carlisle 1 nil to reach the 5th round of the FA Trophy for the first time in their history. They are 3 divisions below Carlisle (managed by Mark Hughes) so a great result for them. |

Dixie, I follow all the non league results, especially the Kent teams
I remember Chatham being mid table Kent League, they've certainly improved, and getting good crowds for the level as well Some of the old top teams like Dartford are struggling |

bad time bof yr to buy kits but you cant delay xmas box, grandson is a boro fan/season tkt holder but city /alfie is his epl team,out of official city shop i bought him city,s 4th kit for xmas he has the other 3, and with haalands name,no on back and all the ch lg badges ion it was best part of 140 quid for a youths, their now seling them 2 weeks aftef xmas at 40% discount, clear out before introducing 4 new strips next season, boro have 3 got him 2 of them,theyve now got 25% off, and its boro,s 150th anniversary this yr so they,ll be 3 new kits and an annivesary special shirt with a new club cest incoming

Our non league clubs have a long history Reg, Chatham were actually formed in 1882 a decade before the Gills. they've always been at their ground in Maidstone Road too, 5k capacity.
My brother goes to watch Maidstone when he can, they have a newish stadium on the edge of town. Such a shame the original club went bankrupt after finally getting in to the football league, it was foolish of the powers that be to splash hundreds of thousands on buying the land at Hollingbourne for a new stadium without having secured planning permission first. The council turned them down despite most townspeople being in favour. Then the Dartford ground they were using got sold of course leaving them without a home, meaning they had to resign from the league and they then entered liquidation. Yes Reg , they were a Sunday League side till 2-3 years ago , must be in a basement league.

Yes reg. I used to go to the dogs regularly in my teens and early twenties, just up the road from Maidstone Barracks train station so usually got a free return trip as no staff at the Medway Valley stations after about six at night
used to often go and watch the Stones as well when Gills didn't have a game. Good times.I started work in 1978 about 400 yards away from the stadium. Maidstone FC's office was next door to ours so would regularly see the players there. And of course Jim Thompson with his lovely Jag . He was not overly popular when the ground was sold ! I actually saw him being interviewed outside the office one day by Andy Steggall for BBC SE news, as i walked by i rather childishly turned my head and mouthed "w****r" , thinking they would cut it out from the evening bulletin, turned out they didn't as my female colleague said to me the next day "saw you on the news last night, what was that you said to Mr Thompson ?" i replied "well done"  |

Yes string, he and Steve Butler were a superb strike force in the conference title winning side that got the Stones promoted.
Went to Brighton and sadly got injured and had to retire , real shame. |

yep, was very inconsistent at GB, but brilliant on his day.

Just looked up his record, in 3 years at Maidstone he scored 71 goals in 131 games, some going.
Then decent at Brighton as well, 13 goals in 31 games and named their player of the year before his injury. |

Dixie,the Maidstone team that won the conference a few years earlier,1984,before the automatic promotion started...were a better team, imo

They were a fine side Reg that is true and deserved to go up but no automatic promotion at that time. Only won the league by a point.
However the 1989 side had more goal scoring potential - they scored 21 more goals in 2 fewer games than the 1984 side. And won the league by 8 points |

The number plate he had at that time was MFC 111 reg, had more than one nice motor in his time though. Not a shrinking violet as you say !
Bill Williams "Mr Maidstone" is indeed a lovely guy. He's 83 now but still at the club as chief exec and director of football. He played for the Gills in the late 60s and early 70s, saw him a couple of times when i was a little lad. Top bloke. |
