As solid as they come. Remember him scoring against the mackems in a League Cup match, finished 2-2, the days of Peter Withe and Alan Shoulder etc

I had a season tkt for every season stuey boam was at boro, never took himself to seriously and mention his name to me my abiding memory is of him clearing a ball by wellying it on the  volley as high as it would gobasicaly directly above his head  and when the crowd cheered /jeered,he started waving his hands gesturing to ball, HIGHER,HIGHER,HIGHER RIP

Laugh  Very good.
R.I.P.

P.S.  my old man, who played himself, used to rave about Wilf Mannion, who he said was one of the great players. Another great whose career was disfigured by the war.     Stanley Matthews thought so too which would confirm it.  Wilf would also play to the crowd and entertain.

Boxing Day 1973

Boro at home to the 1973 FAC winners Sunderland  - 39,000 packed into Ayresome Park for an old Division 2 match (now Championship) - 2 minutes left and its 1-1 - a corner to Boro at the Boys End - the ball bounces around the six yard box and Stuey Boam slides a long leg at the ball and it nestles into the corner of the Sunderland net. Queue pandemonium in 88% of the ground and this little boy in his new parka gets Xmas two days on the trot. Thank you SB, its as fresh in my head as though it happened yesterday.
