Like to see Hearts do well.Have done since they lost the League on the last
day when they just needed a result (just a draw ?) but lost & Celtic made up
a big goal swing on them and won it.
Report MALAY October 27, 2025 9:00 AM GMT
Hearts only needed a draw in Dundee but they couldn't get it Albert Kidd came on as sub to score twice in 2 nil defeat, Celtic battered St Mirren in Paisley, scoring their best goal ever, McGrain, mcstay, Aitken, mclair, Maurice Johnston finish.
Hearts fans still complain that St Mirren lay down, but I know people who played that day, Celtic were just awesome, Hearts can only blame themselves for not getting job done in Dundee, it was in their own hands.
Dancing Brave won the 2000 guineas that day too. Remember it well.
Report MALAY October 27, 2025 9:35 AM GMT
Great commentary that day " Dancing Brave quickens up in the style of a very good horse, Greville looks round for dangers, there is none"
Report LoyalHoncho October 27, 2025 9:47 AM GMT
Hearts fan, incredibly, refereed the game.  Bill Crombie.  Turned down a stone wall Sandy Clark penalty in the sixth minute.  Roddy the Proddy had to play as Levein had flu, as did a few others. Hearts were at the end of a record run - 31 unbeaten if I remember right.  They just ran out of steam.
St Mirren were managed by Alec Miller who hated wee Doddy.  Told his players to have a day off.  St Mirren did for Hearts.  They beat Hearts 6-2 at Tynecastle early season then lay down to Celtic 5-0.  All sorts of things happened which dictated the outcome.  The Old Firm match was Rangers 4 v 3 Celtic until Murdo McLeod scored a  rocket of an equaliser in the 90th minute. That point made a difference.  Big Levein missed a tap in from a yard at Parkhead to get a win.  Wee Robbo left big Paki stretching for shortbread at Parkhead with the finest left-footed thirty yarder I’ve ever seen - half volley, never higher than a foot off the ground.
But I would go through it all again, take it all again.  The players gave us everything they had and we fans reciprocated, following them everywhere in huge numbers.  We stiffed Rangers at Ibrox, Fergie’s Aberdeen at Pittidrie, McLean’s Dundee Utd at Tannadice.  Blew Hibs away home and away but St Mirren and a Hearts fan ref. were too much on the final day.  I mean it though, I’d go through it all again.  They were absolutely brilliant.

I thought you were a tim too honcho just shows you can't read everybody on internet forum, never knew squeaky and doddy were enemies, had a few pints one day in Dublin with robbos brother, massive hibs fan definitely.
Long time ago friends worked for Hearts, great club.

Nah, they will  Hibs it as per.
Report LoyalHoncho October 27, 2025 1:29 PM GMT
Robbo was a Hibs fan.  The whole family was.  Chris played for Hearts briefly so Robbo took his advice and went there too.
My old man played senior in Scotland then ran a boys club.  Very successfully too.  One of these dyed-in-the-wool fit a men, knew he game inside out and just what a player needed to make it.  One Saturday afternoon he said “Come on, I want to show you a player”.  I wasn’t interested because the Cesarewitch was on the telly.  The year Ian Balding’s Centurion won it.  ‘78.  Anyway my Dad won and away we went to watch Edina Hibs under 14’s.  A wee pint-sized, blond centre was the player and he scored three and made another.  My old man raved about him.  It was Robbo.  Four years later he’s in Hearts first team, 17, alongside Jimmy Bone, and they hit it off big-style and he never looked back.  He scored so many goals against Hibs it wasn’t  real as well.
Hearts fans used to sing the Boy George Karma Chameleon song with the words Robbo Robbo Robbo Robbo Robbo Robertson every time he scored at Easter Road - used to drive them crazy.
Report LoyalHoncho October 27, 2025 1:35 PM GMT
The first Derby ( at Easter Road ) after Hearts blew the title The packed Hibs fans pulled out a self-made dummy of Albert Kidd, on a wooden stick, and baited us with it.  Pre-match.  Then one of the bright sparks put a Hearts scarf around its neck and set it alight.  Only it went up like an incendiary raining down burning plastic etc all over them.  They had to scatter in a tightly packed terracing.  Several needed ambulance attention.  We were pi##ing ourselves laughing!

Aye, Sandy was bit of a rough and tumble type. No silky smooth stuff but skilful none the less.  Physical.   Found his niche at Hearts where he and Robbo formed a great understanding.  Cheers.

robbo managed Derry too.

The boys in maroon are the talk of the toon currently and deservedly too, but I think they will drop points before Christmas in matches that they might be odds on to win, however can Rodgers galvanise Celtic to go on a run ? Have my doubts on that, too much negativity there, they have plenty money to spend in January, must spend it wisely, no projects its got to be loan signings who are proven and fit ready to go, money down the drain perhaps, and against club policy but that is only option IMO, no projects nobody has heard of.

MON never was a coach, Malay,  so no change there.
The problem is Shaun Maloney is a million miles from John Robertson or Steve Walford.

I love MON but this is a bonkers move. Absolutely bonkers.
I'd rather have a 78 yr old Roy Hodgson in charge right now than a 73 yr old MON.
Report LoyalHoncho October 28, 2025 3:30 PM GMT
Desmond has obviously appealed to him to come and steady the ship.  Maloney likely to be the active one at training I would think.
MON used to tear his hair out in frustration with him as a teenager newcomer because young Maloney kept taking the wrong option and giving the ball away etc ;  but he learned and became a young player of the year if I remember right. Who knows?  MON’s experience might be just what Maloney needs, again.  But, as ever with success or failure it is essentially about the quality of the players.  The most testing of games to kick off with so we should learn quickly how they’ll get on.
Report MALAY October 28, 2025 3:31 PM GMT

Elvis back at Tynecastle as boss of Dundee.  I hope the fans give him a good welcome.  Back when rsswhole Romanov sacked Burley after winning eight games in a row to top the league he brought in a Lithuanian to run the show.  It was clear to all fans however that Pressley, with Hartley, kept the side focussed and organised.  Pressley himself was a combative, adversarial central defender.  Often cynical, rarely doing anything other than being very reliable he did a great job for Hearts in his time there. Romanov took the huff big style and removed him from the captaincy after Hearts fans applauded him  for standing up to him on behalf of the players.
Report LoyalHoncho November 2, 2025 1:00 PM GMT
4-0 is an amazing home result.  Two new players, both not yet 25, look very useful - one from Burkina Fasso and one from Iceland, and Shankland continues to captain the side with aplomb.  Dundee United next week at home so whilst they must be respected another such performance would surely gather another three points.
It’s great to see if you’re a jambo, enjoying it while we can.
What I await to see, hopefully a good bit away, is how they respond to their first loss.  That will tell us so much about titles and contention for.

A Liberton laddie.  Started his juvenile career with United Crossroads and Eric Gardner.  Stood out - as all top, top players seem to do - from an early age.
I once saw a tenstone Alec Crowley fearlessly block tackle him putting him head over heels on the ground.  Greig was livid which doubly amplified the cheer from the crowd. Greig was a great Rangers and Scotland player but the older he got the more physical he got.  If you can, find a video of the Rangers - Moscow CWCup final in Barcelona and watch the first two minutes.  Greig comes, at pace, from out of picture and cattle’s one of the Russian stars who went on to be largely anonymous in the match.  Referee “unsighted”.  Laugh. Incredible.
Playing for Scotland once against A George Best inspired Northern Ireland he very late tackled Bestie somehow taking off one of Best’s boots.  Incredibly, one-booted-Best kept the ball, picked up his boot put it on, taunting Greig before swerving away withe ball again.  Classic moment.

Report LoyalHoncho November 17, 2025 11:43 PM GMT
I had to google it.   It’s a good question.
Hibs fans used to greet their eyes out about how “Stein sabotaged Hibs knowing in three months time he was going to Celtic”.  They reckoned he sold Ronnie Simpson to them in advance.  Somehow I doubt it but he was a wily, cunning man that’s for sure.  Later on Hibs decided that one of their greats, Paddy Stanton, was finished and let him go to Celtic.  Stein immediately did what Hibs should have done and moved him back to sweeper, where Stanton looked like Franz Beckenbauer.  Inspired thinking but unfortunately Pat suffered a career ending injury and had to retire.
Report MALAY November 18, 2025 9:38 AM GMT
Stanton was the other one in my mind Honcho,
Leeds he wasn't there long enough, ruled that out quickly
usually I think about goalies but I ruled that out quickly, it just led to Big Tid, although I was not certain Jock signed him for Dunfermline.
Report LoyalHoncho November 18, 2025 11:41 AM GMT
Neither was I.  Stanton was a Hibs youth product of the time.  I’m sure he had a grandfather or granduncle who played for Hibs too, so is revered for that as well.  Brilliant player and from all accounts a real gentleman.  However none of that stopped Hibs from sacking him as manager.  Watch the news and media when he passes.  Leith will come to a standstill.
Report LoyalHoncho December 7, 2025 5:16 PM GMT
Great result for Hearts but Hibs are definitely not out of this title chase.  One top class central defender in January would help them greatly imv.
