Some laugh this. The way they go on you'd swear we were actually good.

Tony O'Donoghue making a fool of himself hammering the manager in the post match interview.

The idiot even stated Evan Ferguson is a generational talent LaughLaughLaughLaughLaughLaugh

Its utterly bizzare to listen to Irish fans criticising the Manager. Not his fault the majority of this country support British teams and have the gall to expect the team gets to WCs etc..

For decades, the English football leagues were doing the job for the FAI. Scouting talent and bringing them to England to develop.
With freedom of movement and Bosman suddenly it became possible to spread their net further and Irish players were left behind.

Add in the progress of the GAA/Rugby whilst the FAI threw birthday parties and drinking trains with money earned from previous tournaments and its no surprise to see Irish football dead in a ditch.

LOI is pub level standard and if Irish football is to progress imho they need to move to a county team system (and group smaller counties together) like the GAA.

Ireland have basically morphed from a Premier League side in 2002 to a Championship club level team in 2025

At the World Cup in 2002 when looking at the first choice players including Keane who was sent home, six of their first choice 11 were playing for teams who'd finished top 10 in the prem that season (Given-Harte-Staunton-Keane-Duff-Keane), the only non Prem player was Dunne but he'd just been promoted with City as Champions from the Championship on 99 pts. Finnan was at Fulham but he went on to the win the Champions League with Liverpool so he was above the level of club he was playing for.

Last night the Ireland team started the game against Armenia had 6 Championship players, 1 Brentford player who finished 10th last season plus the 2nd choice Liverpool keeper, 1 Burnley player who've just been promoted from the Champ but will go back down again, O'Brien for Everton who were 13th and star player Ferguson who couldn't get regular football for Brighton.

To go from 6 top 10 Prem players in the starting line up to 6 Championship players in the line up is a massive come down.

The result against Armenia is not a disgrace, some of their first choice players play for top Russian, Serbian or Hungarian, Slovakian, teams.

The only hope for Irish players is to go abroad as soon as any player with any talent comes through, the league of Ireland is ranked 31st by UEFA, just below Bulgaria and just above Iceland and Moldova. I have heard the crowds are a lot better than what they used to be though and there's more of an away culture than before, every cloud.

Kind Regards.
