What does that say about the quality of the Prem if the supposedly second-best team in it doesn’t trust itself with the ball.
All I have to see is Thomas Tuchel adopting the tactic and I’ll rest easy that England won’t win anything for another sixty years.

ok ,so then why spend next 80 mins with goalies,defenders fooking about in their own box,why doesnt goalie /defenders just wack it in to touch ,surely the more times you do it ,the more times you have of winning the ball further up the pitch ?

From the kick off, the opponent literally has 11 men behind the ball. More chance of creating a chance by forcing an error deep in their half than by passing your way from the halfway line.

Kicking straight into touch from your own area is only gonna get the throw in to midfield.

youve got half a billion £ worth of talent with free ball from a kick off 50 yds from goal with opposition at least 10 yds away
or youve got wooden headed defenders and a goal keeper 100 yds from goal fooking about playing one /twos as though their messi in which situation would you launch it down pitch in hope of getting field position further up pitch ? |

With the passing around in your box, the idea is you eventually have an easy pass out to a midfielder in space.
Obviously not advisable if your defenders have poor first touch and no passing skill. |

But then he's got 11 players in front of him. The passing around the box can take 3 or 4 opponents out of the game if it comes off.

I think it is a s$it tactic. The sort of thing Barcelona fans rejected when Mourinho was Bobby Robson's coach there. What did the Barca fans call Mourinho? "purveyor of s$it" or something of that gist.

Mourinho was well liked while at Barca I believe.

I'm not a massive fan but can see some logic in trying it occasionally if you have a very good press - slightly surprised Enrique of all people to use it..

Perhaps we will see rugby lineout lift & jumpers near the sideline at kickoffs since it's basically rugby now. We already have rugby tackling as professional fouls to take a yellow and scrums at set pieces.
