..is that it stops genuine elation after a goal as every fan now double guesses themselves thinking this could be turned over. It's a crying shame that some of the joy is being removed from millions of people's main passion.

Football (with it being different from other sports that have natural breaks), is one of the few entertainment industries that has introduced soemthing to lessen the entertainment for the paying customer. Unfortunately until the fans vote with their feet it wont be going anywhere soon.

Its the only logical thing to do Mr Spock
Report abba21 August 31, 2025 1:20 PM BST
You need var for offside .look whatever they  come up with it wont make difference as someone will find a way to cheat.Var should only get involved for offside and red cards nothing else
Report formoftheace September 3, 2025 9:39 AM BST
Ignore punting on any game ruled by an individual who could be sitting in a box two hundred miles away….

VAR = Satan in the football punting game imo.

Imagine thousands wavering on a toenail ffs
Report 1st time poster September 3, 2025 10:10 AM BST
absolute hogwash name a goal that hasnt been celebrated, some fans have always celebrated goals that have been 10 yds offside when  the more savy fans have seen lino,s flag up dont celebrate
Report formoftheace September 3, 2025 10:19 AM BST
They will certainly celebrate the goal, then look at the screen expecting to see VAR…..
Report Whisperingdeath September 3, 2025 10:42 AM BST
Some real stupidity being shown here. Perhaps these same people showing it do not remember the Hand of God.

Football is the only sport that has an issue with this. Probably because cheating is an acceptable part of the game. Managers, players and fans quite often do not even know the rules but if a decision goes against them VAR has killed football!

I think the Captain or Manager should be able to challenge decisions like in cricket. Then the focus will switch from vilifying an official who is trying to do his job.
Report formoftheace September 3, 2025 10:56 AM BST
I’m only referring to the punting view tbh….VAR is the - sign before the whistle…

Lower leagues in Scotland and England you have a better chance….
Report Aspro September 3, 2025 11:08 AM BST
3 and out rule. If someone gets VAR clearly wrong, 3 times, find a new career.
Report Whisperingdeath September 3, 2025 11:15 AM BST
For the Manger?

Sack him if he gets 3 challenges wrong?
Report Whisperingdeath September 3, 2025 11:17 AM BST
The punting things work both ways. I have won bets where a “ good “ goal has been ruled out by VAR

It is just annoying when it goes against you
Report Aspro September 3, 2025 11:22 AM BST
VAR should never be wrong or rules put in place to avoid wrong decisions. For example, if it isn't a blatantly obvious offside that can be adjudicated in a few seconds then side with the attacking team. So easy to implement.
Report Aspro September 3, 2025 11:25 AM BST
If a handball is a coin flip or even unavoidable then it isn't a handball. A handball for me is a deliberate act.
Report brians September 3, 2025 12:13 PM BST
Absolutely Aspro. It used to be that all fouls had to be deliberate and its not hard to judge this. It would clear up so much of the if/ buts we have today. E.g pulling a shirt is deliberate , today we have ridiculous comments like “ there wasn't enough contact “ . What the hell does that mean. Where is the definition on enough contact. ?
Its true, this is the only game played by players who dont know the rules, officials who decide their own slant on the rules and fans-who only support decisions that favour their team. Crazy , and not a game to bet on for the above reasons !
Report 1st time poster September 3, 2025 1:47 PM BST
why should a 125 mill attacker who most of time is
quicker than defender
facing the right way
no where /when the ball is going
get an advantage over a defender regards offsides, its a line decision/and with automated offside their getting 99% of them right, burnley on sat was offside and given offside by lino on day,so would have been no goal without VAR,and confusion came from putting up the wrong pics
Report brassneck September 3, 2025 3:59 PM BST
What i don,t like about VAR is, that you can strangle a player in the box and it is not a penalty kick ,but if you place a hand on the shoulder of a player outside the box its a free kickConfusedLaugh

Report Flemenstar September 4, 2025 2:12 AM BST
why don't you just cheer the goal anyway, really let yourself go? Don't let the automatons win!

honestly what is the worst thing that happens if you do that? You look a bit silly?

watch any Premier League game, I don't see many fans in the crowd second guessing themselves when the ball hits the back of the net.
Report 1st time poster September 4, 2025 1:14 PM BST
its actualy the complete opposite to what people are describing, ive sat in my seat 100,s of times  motionlesswhen ball has gone in the net because ive seen the lino,s flag up,which meant rightly or wrongly no goal, now 99,9% of times theres no flag going up ,keep it down wait for var,so your celebrating the goal even if its get chalked off a min later,if its allowed to stand your celebrating twice
Report Whisperingdeath September 4, 2025 1:25 PM BST
exactly.

some people just want to throw their toys out of the pram. Many are justified in how the process works and the rules but usually the offside is pretty good.

Football is a fast moving game not designed for commercial adverts. That is one of the things we love about it. The technology is a good thing but not well administered at times, offside excepted. If people want that spontaneity back I think the challenge system is probably a better system until one of the big sides loses 3 straight challenges and it is soooo unfair and why don't they get 4 challenges!

You cant win with football fans!
Report 1st time poster September 4, 2025 1:35 PM BST
the same pundits/commes/msm/fans  complaining are the same ones spending 3 days repeat after repeat slow mo for a pen against SLOB/l,pool when its never been a handball ever not even in the height of terrible handball decisions been give, SLOB when interviewed didnt even no the incident to which the interviewer was blabbing on about
Report SlippyBlue September 4, 2025 2:54 PM BST
VAR makes you aware, from a punting point of view, that 10 or more minutes extra time is a regular occurrence. So you have to factor that in when assessing your positions.
