Is there  any way around this and why are betting companies excepting this from government ,surely the betting companies would just turn around and say you re closing down our business as people wont send this to a bookmaker.

Super Hans: Had a sort of "Road to Damascus" flash on the A22. Crashed the van into some guy's hedge 'cause I was so effing wrecked. And then this voice in my head, sounded like Brian Moore, used to do the football on ITV, said "pack it in son, mug's game".

There are laws against money laundering and bookmakers have to abide by the law so they require evidence of were you obtained money, if you have cash you can bet at a track but not in shops without evidence of were money came from.

I work all night, I work all day to pay the bills I have to pay
Ain't it sad?
And still there never seems to be a single penny left for me
That's too bad
In my dreams I have a plan
If I got me a wealthy man
I wouldn't have to work at all, I'd fool around and have a ball
Money, money, money
Must be funny
In the rich man's world
Money, money, money
Always sunny
In the rich man's world
Aha
All the things I could do
If I had a little money
It's a rich man's world
It's a rich man's world

I thought you needed people to deposit so there would be more money in the markets

Do other bookmakers require proof of income?

I can only remember ever having to provide this for betfair,  the 3 bookmakers I use have never requested anything
Report abba21 August 25, 2025 6:52 PM BST
I think bet365 as well but exchange is asking for it which should ruin exchange as most people wont give this.

most of the liquidity you see isn't peer-to-peer money from small time punters on here, so BF won't be in the least bit bothered about one of us quitting.

every bookmaker asks for it

It matters not a jot if you have millions in the Bank.
Under the lunacy of GC Rules (which they deny),it is not proof of income.
You couldn't make it upSad

Malay,

Every bookmaker does ask for it, but not off every customer, see below

''We only request documents in exceptional circumstances where we believe we are required to in order to meet our regulatory requirements, and over the last year this has only been around 2% of William Hill customers''.

Off course this may change going forward.
Report uptheirons August 25, 2025 9:19 PM BST
The circumstances are usually that they are likely to do their money to the customer they ask for proofLaugh

Is it ok to only declare half your income, like I do with the wife?
Report uptheirons August 25, 2025 9:23 PM BST
You are stuffed if your income is derived solely from gambling

Strange way of losing non winning customers,

Winners banned, heavy losers who hit a winning streak
and make a withdrawal lumbered with kyc and proof of earnings.

Why not take proof of earnings with first deposit
if they really want to meet requirements?

Had half an hour to kill yesterday and outside the Ladbrokes I once used there is a loading bay only.  Quiet, no sign of wardens so into Laddies I went.  It’s worse than the last time I was in.  That was five years ago.  However I do have something new to report.  Five machines, all in use, no body under FIFTY using.  Two were clearly of pension age.  Not a youth in sight.  Grown, hugely experienced adults, all men.  Had a Quick Look at the dogs sheet, couldn’t read the miniscule print.   Laugh. Betting shops used to be hub of community, it's sad what has happened really.

anyone ever been asked for proof of earnings? I haven't and don't know anyone who has. Assume it's only used for degenerate gamblers with heavy losses to avoid cry baby news stories about "why didn't they stop me?!"

Nearly everyone who bets in size in betting shops will be accosted. Not first day, mark you: that's a sop to the industry. Easy to navigate for the intrepid punter but inconvenient for the customer who likes to use his local.
