In fairness Tavernier is a good penalty taker and he has been at Ibrox a long time, not sure how many Celtic have been given in that period, it's the one's not given against them I'd be more concerned about.

Yes Malay Tavanier is a good penalty taker, but then again he gets plenty of practice !!

Abstract

This study presents a statistical analysis of penalties conceded in the top tier of the Scottish Professional Football League (SPFL) from seasons 2016/2017 - 2022/2023. In particular, claims in the media that the number of penalties conceded by Glasgow Rangers is statistically anomalous are considered. A t-test analysis of the penalties conceded by Rangers versus other SPFL premier league clubs, reveals a statistically significant difference, with Rangers conceding fewer penalties.

This result is even more pronounced for Rangers if the analysis is restricted to penalties conceded at home. By comparison, the number of penalties conceded by Glasgow Celtic do not diverge significantly from the league's average, despite their dominant playing style and high possession rates. The study concludes that the number of penalties conceded by Rangers over this period is formally a statistical outlier, lending significant weight to concerns over the impartiality of match officiating in Scottish football.

The more a team attacks the more penalties they should be expected to win. The old firm have been  involved in a lot of one sided contests over the years. I have always thought the refs favour the big teams all over the world so that could be another reason for more penalties.

It’s been going on for DECADES.
Forty years ago I’m reading the Daily Record which has reported the death of a retired referee.  The chap had been interviewed and had admitted that his most satisfying moment had been when he refereed a Queen of the South v Rangers cup-tie at Dumfries and he had awarded Rangers a last minute penalty from which they managed the draw and a convincing win in the Ibrox replay.
Can’t offer any names, facts, verification but most surely do remember the article.
I once worked with a guy, a bit older than me but not much, who never did the Thursday overtime.  I asked him one day why and he explained that he was a referee, hoping to become a Grade 1, and that on Thursdays he had to attend training in Glasgow.  100+mile round trip.  On asking him why he coul£n’t train locally he simply said that if he didn’t show face in Glasgow he would have no hope of progressing.  The Glasgow mafia had to be worshipped, respected and appeased.
I have no reason whatsoever to believe that this krap doesn’t still go on.

No penalty tonight against Club Brugge in the champions league qualifier, but tonight the officials were impartial.

The Rangers players appealed for a penalty that would be a given for them in the SPL, and appeared visibly shocked!! when it wasn't even considered by the officials.

hopefully this  2 leg match is put to bed, but disappointed on Brugge conceded goal when all my friends were hoping for 5 nil.

It must engender indecision when you go three up away.  Do we go for the jugular or settle for and manage what we’ve got, which is essentially progress into the next round?   You have to fancy Bruges to score on their own patch at some stage which would mean Rangers having to score three more to force e.t.  Would seem very unlikely.
