I'm watching football now on mute, watching France/Denmark but that whining bint, was wrecking my head, why can't they keave anything alone anymore

Both games on mute. Women’s euros start soon. I’m sure there will be an equal mix of female and male commentators. For the cause of diversity. |

I thought she was got rid of because her voice is very irritating? Gave her the most exciting game but she still made it seem like an ordeal

I dislike fake accents. She sounds like a strange mix of South African/ Aussie/New Zealand. Although apparently she's English. I think it's an artificial accent, trying to sound distinctive, like a female Clive Tyldesley or something. Personally, I prefer commentators using their normal voices.

A lot of the women on BBC especially are just box tickers, a few are on on Final Score each week and when they go over to the grounds half of them struggle to even tell you the score let alone any match details.
There is an art to tv commentary and most of todays lot (men included) lack it. Too many of them think they are the stars of the show and forget that the viewers have pictures as well. The use of superlatives to describe each piece of action really grates on me, every pass, cross, shot, save, tackle etc, however routine, are described as brilliant/great/wonderful/fantastic. Listen to the likes of Steve Wilson for instance who often incorporates several of those words in every sentence. Radio commentary doesn't suffer from the above so much. Years ago the likes of Alan Parry and Peter Drury were very good on Radio 5 i thought, but when they switched to tv they changed their style somewhat and became much more OTT. |

Indeed, and sadly radio commentators forget that we do not. We've both lived through an age of brilliant commentaries both on radio and on TV, and at times live at events. I don't see many commentators who add to the drama or enliven a mundane event. A lost art, and huge space for talented folk to fill, given a chance. |

I quite like John Murray on R5 Donny, i believe he is from your neck of the woods. Does the golf as well sometimes. Can get a bit excited but seems a genuine enthusiast.
Gone are the days of Bryon Butler and Peter Jones on the radio sadly, they knew that the listener required details of what was actually going on rather than being patronised. Jones in particular was a master of his craft. |

Even though he is generally disliked I really liked Alan Green (lashed into the net), him and Mike Ingham on second half commentary on the radio back in the day was great.

Slightly reluctant poster on this as there are some female comms and pundits who are clearly better than their male contemporaries and still get all sorts of abuse in some quarters but the comms on the Burnley v Brentford game was horrific..

Agree with most of tha.. . but... Alan Green would
go off on one and would be disgusted if somebody interupted him by scoring a goal, he really got distracted at times. His style got copied by many, and still see or hear his influences, rather than the actual commentary commentators. As above, he was popular,... At least with some.. And he won many awards, so that's what folk wanted, or thought they did. I've not heard a good woman football commentator, yet. But some of the pundits are great like Emma Hayes, and others dreadful like Eni. I'd also ban co commentators from TV screens, they serve zero purpose. Let them chat at half time when I'm making a cuppa. |

The endless reading of stats has become a big turn off for me with commentators in grneral, particularly Fletcher for whom the actual game seems to get in the way of this and endless waffle about anything thats not actually happening on the pitch.
