The state of play is Australia win and they progress pretty much through to the World Cup in 2026. Lose or draw and it will probably come down to the final day match against the Saudis. Saudi Will play Bahrain a bit later on tonight.

Australia 2.90, Draw 3.20, Japan 2.84

Japan will be fielding a 2nd string side but still have a core of Premier League talent available.

From a source I saw last week:

(from a source I saw online)

GK: Zion Suzuki, Keisuke Osako, Kosei Tani

CBs: Koki Machida, Junnosuke Suzuki, Tsuyoshi Watanabe, Kota Takai, Ayumu Seko, Hiroki Sekine

Wing Backs: Keito Nakamura, Ryoya Morishita, Yuto Nagatomo, Ryunosuke Sato, Yu Hirakawa

Center Midfield: Kaishu Sano, Kodai Sano, Wataru Endo, Joel Fujita Chima, Koki Kumasaka

Attacking Midfielders: Yuito Suzuki, Kota Tawaratsumida, Takefusa Kubo, Daichi Kamada, Shunsuke Mito

Strikers: Shuto Machino, Yuki Ohashi, Mao Hosoya

1st time call-ups (to the Full A team): Kota Tawaratsumida, Shunsuke Mito, Ryunosuke Sato, Yu Hirakawa, Koki Kumasaka, Kodai Sano & Junnosuke Suzuki

Endo, Kubo and Daichi Kamada Id imagine would be starters straight up. If the Socceroos can't get a result against that lot, they probably deserve to go through the more rigorous route of qualifying.

A draw or loss is no good for the Aussies, so sense Aussies will go out attack for the 3 points.

The market thinks they are evenly matched. I hope to win the price of a pint on the one all draw.

Was this a wamp? Out to 2.70 when the teams were announced, 3.50 after 5 mins, 4.0 after 30 mins.

Could be, stats so far suggesting 0-0. Japan has most possession which probably explains the market tilt towards them. Only a fun bet for me.

A draw is more than 'no good' for the Aussies. A win would be better obvs but I'd say they'll be happy enough with the draw. They have a big goal difference advantage over the Saudis if they finish level (does not go on H2H as its FIFA).
