Goodbye Goodison Park

Goodison was the ground where Newcastle won their first ever FA Cup - 2-0 against Barnsley in a replay in 1910 thanks to two goals from Albert Shepherd.

Farewell Goodison.

Absolutely no need for that 1tp - poor sportsmanship on your part. And it's "riddance" btw.

I have many great memories of Goodison but the one that sticks out is the last day escape against Wimbledon in 1994. The team were in dreadful form and a couple of weeks earlier i had witnessed yet another god awful 0-0 against Coventry, come the last day we needed at least a point to stay up which most pundits thought would be enough as Ipswich who were a point above us (but with an inferior goal difference) were expected to lose away at high flying Blackburn. At the time the Park End had been demolished so the crowd capacity was reduced and i was amazed to be able to phone up and get tickets easily during the week as i thought i would have no chance of doing so and knew i'd have little chance of getting in on the day. We nearly missed kick off as my mate who was driving stayed on the M1 instead of going on to the M6 and i hadn't noticed as my head was buried in the Racing Post. But we finally arrived in our seats 2 minutes before kick off.

20 minutes later the crowd had fallen silent as the would be party pooping Dons were 2 up courtesy of poor old Gary Ablett scoring an own goal and Anders Limpar giving away a penalty via an inexplicable hand ball. We looked doomed but received a lifeline just before the break when Limpar made some amends by "winning" a penalty in his trademark fashion. Graeme Stuart dispatched the spot kick and hope returned. Half way through the second half the score remained unaltered and then up stepped Barry Horne with a quite unforgettable 30 yard screamer in to the top corner, i was right behind it and knew it was in from the moment it left his boot. Cue bedlam. Most of the crowd thought that was it and safety was secured but i knew we needed another goal as Ipswich were still drawing. With ten minutes left Stuart stabbed a shot from the edge of the box that 9 times out of 10 would have been a reasonably comfortable save for most keepers, but luckily for Evertonians it was "you need Hans" Segers in goal and the ball somehow found its way in to the back of his net. 3-2 to the toffees and double bedlam. We were safe. The next season we won the FA Cup, surely the good times were back.......

Ipswich clung on for their draw at Blackburn and stayed up at the expense of the unlucky Sheffield Utd who lost 3-2 to a last gasp Mark Stein goal at Stamford Bridge after leading with 15 minutes to go. Blades fans must have been devastated, i almost knew how they felt.

my dozen memories of goodison park are celebrating not getting your face slashed and wondering why you should pay to stand in a flat terrace behind the goal and a fence big enough to keep a Russian army out , garbage ground,garbage view,moody fans and dark  atmosphere

my 1st  ever visit to GOODISON I was in the top of the main stand for a BORO FA cup game ,might have been 70,s, not the BORO V EVERTON cup saga,a of late 80,s/90,s , where I was behind goal in terrace and one night game replay and  the seats above the terrace behind the goal for another

Dragon - were you there in 82 when Rush scored four in the 5 nil game ? On loan Glen Keeley sent off on debut after 32 mins, never played for the toffees again !

Say what you like rothko, the toffees were still the first team to bring the league title to Anfield, and if they hadn't left Liverpool FC wouldn't exist.

in the film they have after every world cup, you get all the close ups of the fouls with background noises added,going to see GOAL after 1970,s was my 1st

Pele was the one that got a good kicking, Goodison only ground outside of Wembley to host a World Cup semi Final in the UK.

Just pointing out some history for you rothko. My namesake, the greatest ever CF, scored 60 league goals in one top flight season, nobody has ever got near that  either before or after and yes they did win a trophy that year.

And Liverpool are actually captained by a dijk  !

It's suspected up here that the women's team thing is a Chelsea style "sale" to a connected partner to help make the balance sheet look a bit brighter.

Went to see Liverpool win the presitigious Screen Sport Super Cup there in 86 where we wiped the floor with them. Rush was just far too quick and lethal. A few months later, got into Gwladys Street at 3/4 time to see the win against Luton that clinched (I think it did at least) the league.

Aside from that, my memory was of earning some dough as a kid minding cars as we lived ten minutes walk away.
