Interesting to note that most of the footballers on the pitch today could individually pay for free-school meals in Manchester out of their wages.

Well yes because there is now such a huge disconnect between the lives of the footballer and the fan.

Duncan Edwards used to catch the bus to Old Trafford on matchdays. Emelyn Hughes said there was no barrier between him and the fans:- the players were just the Reds who wore the football boots on matchdays.
