Real Madrid are in talks over finalising the signing of Liverpool full-back Trent Alexander-Arnold on a free transfer this summer.
Discussions over the protracted transfer are ongoing as the Spanish side look to secure the England international before the start of next season. Multiple sources close to the negotiations have told BBC Sport that while a deal is still to be fully agreed, work towards completing the transfer is reaching the closing stages - though nothing has been signed yet. Alexander-Arnold is in the final three months of his contract at Liverpool and is free to discuss a move abroad. Real have made the 26-year-old a priority target this summer with sources close to the situation saying the Spanish club have been tracking the player for close to two years. Alexander-Arnold has spent his entire career at Anfield, coming through the academy to make more than 300 appearances for the club. He has won every major trophy while playing for Liverpool and is the club's vice-captain. |

People’s anger is so misplaced.
He has been with the club since he was six and given them everything. He is 26 years old. He has every right to live and work in a more sophisticated city than Liverpool. Everybody knew he was being courted by Madrid. He did not need to say or do anything but give of his best on the pitch. He has applied for work with a new employer with better prospects of success, more money and a better lifestyle. What is wrong with that? |

If Liverpool were to lose Salah, trent and virgil for nowt then that's a huge blow to finding replacements. |

Finding replacements with money is difficult enough. They have a kid for right back but Salah is impossible to replace. We do not know the financial picture to make a comment.

I can sort of see both sides with Trent.
Letting your contract drift and leaving for nothing can definitely be seen as stiffing the club in some way. The way he shushed the crowd a couple of months ago will rightly bring him some grief. Let's be honest, both him and the club knew what was happening all season and just had to play along. But you can only take the fans as mugs so far. Especially Liverpool fans. That said, he's a generational talent. The best right back in the world. He's won everything there is to win with us, and he gets the chance of a mega payday where he's perhaps picking up tens of millions before his weekly wage. He'd be completely stupid not to take that deal. He's not going to work in the mines, he's off to play with Jude, Vinicius and M'Bappé, and is likely to win a load more stuff. Madrid are vultures and the first to exploit this trend of top players happy to let their contracts go. It'll take a brave club to stick their best player in the reserves or tout him to Saudi for sale. Best you can probably do is hope to keep him settled and focused and have a good season while working on a replacement. Trent is definitely the more valuable of the 3, but weirdly he'd probably be missed the least given Bradley's rise. As long as he can stay injury free we should be alright at RB for a good few years. I think Trent has no doubt damaged his reputation at the club though. A bit like McManaman in how he'll never be welcomed back with open arms now. But we'll still revel in his highlight reels and corner taken quickly will live on for centuries. But life gives you hard choices sometimes and I still think he's made the right one for him. |

Just look at how Liverpool and Carragher have treated Salah who is a fine role model as a footballer and human being and worth his weight in gold. Lets see how much it costs Liverpool to replace his goals, assists, winning mentality and example.
TAA is right to leave Liverpool for money, lifestyle and better football and quality of life. We shall see what Liverpool will win next season. |

Liverpool are in a tight spot with Salah, he's old and they have to consider his falling off a cliff that will happen all at once, they can't afford to be sat there with him on an almighty contract if his form goes for the last time, his form is season has been incredible, so incredible that it should be looked on as an outlier, particularly at his age with it being realistic to expect it to not be repeated.

Carragher is looking at it from the position of the club being the most important thing. If you give Salah a bumper new deal, it would be doing so as a reward to the play but it will be to the likely detriment of the club and that is what Carragher is not having.

I think some players can play on later. Speed going is of course a problem. I accept the budget issues. It is a tough call. If van **** were to go I would go too if I were Salah and take the Euro's. I would not go to Saudi for the money. Liverpool would have to rebuild. It's tough choices for everybody. look at Arsenal. they are in a great position to take it to the next level but how long have they needed a goal scorer and how many more midfielders will they buy? I hope somebody at Arsenal would have approached Salah to ask him what he wants! If you look at Arsenal just before January there were plenty of goal scorers available on loan like Osimen. That would have been a worthwhile gamble. Liverpool could have exploded just like Arsenal and the trophy is there for the taking. |

I think football fans are stoopid much of the time. The reaction of some who should know better about a 26yo young man plying his trade is scurrilous. Most of the time we do not know what goes on behind the scenes and who is playing hardball. I don't think players should be vilified for negotiating their future. I am not ashley criticising the clubs either as they have a balancing act despite the contribution made by these loyal or at the very least thoroughly commendable professionals. |

Wouldn't it be nice, and this is high naivety on my part, if a player like Salah came along once in a while and said, look I'm getting on, I love Liverpool and feel privileged to play here, I understand that my form could go south at my age so I am prepared to stay even on a reduced contract as I already have more money than anyone could ever want or need and I don't want the club to suffer if things went wrong....my god, what an even greater hero he would be than he is already

without lpool having to match his pay rise to trents wallet. If virgil goes too then Salah can mop up all the gravy. Would be great if he said I'll play for nowt if you give season ticket holders a 75% discount,... The plane, the plane... |

players shouldnt be allowed to talk to anyone until the end of the season or end of contract. liverpool are about to embark on a title run in, they dont need their players minds thinking of things other than winning football matches. imagine if liverpool didnt win the title and trent had some bad games. he'd never be allowed back into the city.
