The head to head that had to happen!

I'm loving this new Champions League format!

Real lead 2-1 from the first leg so they have the edge but not much of an edge and of course all form goes out the window in this derby.

Should be a great match to watch

I haven't seen conclusive evidence it was a double tap

Maybe they used the sensor in the ball to make the decision

what possible advantage can a double kick be to the penalty taker ? and as if anyone is going to try it deliberately. some rules are simply unfair. either retake or result stands should it either go in or if its missed.

Really hard cheese on Athletici but if happens. Get over it. Worse things happen at sea.

Like I said better to get knocked out by Teal Madrid in the quarters.

Athletic though are a very very good side. It was a great match. Great to see Bellingham scream at Vinicius. The guy is a Jewell no doubt soon to be targeted by the hate mob. I hope Tuchell builds his team around him and specifically does not try and get all the bright stars shoe horned in. Best player in each position. No Gerrard AND Lampard!

Ridicolous decision, sums up where football is now. Ruined by fourth officals and VAR.
I wonder would they have came to the same decision if it was Mbappe that slipped and had a double touch - doubt it Sad

there's a close up clip on X and to be honest I cant see a double touch despite watching it a dozen times, they also show the supposed double touch based on the standing foot slightly raisingt the ball, but I can't see it.not sure why VAR got involved about as far as you can get from an OBVIOUS ERROR its possible to get, unless the reff give it and var backed him up

The Real players could see it from the halfway line and said it to the offiials. It was obvious from the way the ball moved

Unfortunately it was a double hit. The kicking foot hit the ball against the standing foot. Most people are looking at it assuming that it was the standing foot that nudged the ball against the kicking foot when he slipped (which is what usually happens when a player slips). But if you look at it closely, you can see the right foot kicking the ball against the left. Unlucky for Atleti, but you could say they caused their own problems, as the grass was too long and apparently over-watered. At least one other Atleti player slipped when taking their pen. Oblak also seemed to have trouble with his footing, leading to him struggling with a pen he should have saved easily.

The law that saw Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez’s penalty controversially disallowed in March’s Champions League shootout against Real Madrid has been officially amended

If such a ‘double touch’ happens in future the kick would be retaken rather than ruled out
By:

When: 03 Jun 25 15:42
The penalty taker accidentally kicks the ball with both feet simultaneously or the ball touches
their non-kicking foot or leg immediately after the kick:
§ If the kick is successful, it is retaken
§ If the kick is unsuccessful, an indirect free kick is awarded (unless the referee plays
advantage when it clearly benefits the defending team) or, in the case of penalties (penalty
shoot-out), the kick is recorded as missed
• The penalty taker deliberately kicks the ball with both feet simultaneously or deliberately
touches it a second time before it has touched another player:
§ An indirect free kick is awarded (unless the referee plays advantage when it clearly benefits
the defending team) or, in the case of penalties (penalty shoot-out), the kick is recorded as
missed
Please note that these clarified procedures are effective for competitions starting on or after 1 July
2025 and may be used by competitions starting before that date.
