Yeah, I’m sure it was called the mid-week match in the late 70’s.
|
|
By:
No midweek league games shown back then. They were always cup ties I think.
|
|

I think itv football was pretty much region by region until
early 1980s. They did national broastcast for cup final, and internationals, of course. So midweek games may have different names by broadcaster. It did Sunday highlites of a local game under title of shoot. |

On Sportsnight we had the Geyhound T.V. Trophy with Harry Carpenter.

My team, Millwall, won the 5 a side late 70s,on the tele at Wembley
There was a young, probably 17 year old, black lad who stole the show that night, can't remember his name But, without being racist and stereotyping, the club sacked him a year or so later because he was caught stealing from other players pockets in the dressing room Never heard of again in football circles Someone like Foyles might remember him |
|
By:
Just so you don't think I was being racist...
The lad's name was Roger Wynter, it was about 83 when they won it with him in the team plus Teddy Sheringham and he got player of the tournament, Wynter that is Apart from the incident I mentioned he got done for mugging somebody with a knife which was the final straw for the club What a waste of talent |

This is an interview with Elton Welsby from the Nessun Dorma podcast talking about his career back in the 80's. Nessun Dorma pod is all about 70's and 80's football nostalgia, the Barry vs Motty episode an example of what they did, they also had an episode on all the sports programmes of the time and trying to identify them from the themes. |
