Really interesting one tonight, and mostly because of the question marks.

City's midfield (and defence) remains poor. Question is whther Gonzalez can come in and provide the legs in midfield and if Khusanov is an improvement on what they have at the back. But we know that if you can turn them around they're really vulnerable.

Madrid are just utterly buggered by injuries at the back. Militao, Alaba, Rudiger, Carvajal and Vazquez are all injured. It looks like Tchouameni will fill in at centre back and Valverde will be the right back. So that means Modric and Camavinga will be the midfielders.

Can make an argument for all outcomes. That it could be cagey given both their issues, but also that one side could walk it quite easily.

I'm backing Madrid at the prices. Don't think City should be Evs for this. I think they're just a better team, and despite the injuries their front 4 will cause real problems. The fact of having the 2 midfielders in the back line could actually give them more control of the ball and better passers to hit it long on the counter.

Famous last words obvs, and I'd like to pre-emptively congratulate Haaland on his hat-trick but my money's going down on the blancos.

i agree on city being evens, want to lay city for the win but will wait on team selection from pep because there's a couple of players he really needs that might be the difference

The only thing there can be any certainty about is both teams will score.

Different teams from last season and I think will be a different style of game compared to last season. Vinicius will be playing with a bit of a chip on his shoulder. Same ref, Turpin, refed Man City match two months ago to which there were only 15 fouls in the game. Turpin averages 23.23 fouls per game in UEFA CL in his career. Last seasons two matches had 20 fouls and 21 fouls, I see the foul figure around the 20-23 mark , and a good likelihood of being less.

I also think City might have one eye on this weekends fixture against Newcastle with the view of finishing Top 4 in the PL. It feels like even a 1 goal loss for RM and it isnt the end of the world for them. They will be confident of overturning a goal deficit on their home deck.

no way should City be favourites, it ignores how bad and in disarray City are, and against the top team in Spain, has to be value on Madrid, 1-2 or 1-3, Kind Regards.

Madrid couldn't beat athletico at home, drew with barca and got walloped by barca in cup and fell over the line in other games, bit simplistic to say their top of LG,barca were top before Xmas and then couldn't his a cows Arris with a banjo for next5,6 games

No it's not, Barca and Atletico are far better than City at the moment, and Madrid always want this competiton far more than some domestic cup or La Liga.

Even when City were good Real always managed to make a game of it, I think Real will be surprised at the state of this City side. Real haven't been great themselves this season but they still have a lot of quality and more importantly they have legs, how are City going to cope with that. I can just see numerous time of Real just running through them.

well duffy id say the night city hammered madrid 4-0 in manchester was one of the best performances i've seen from a british side in the ch lge, if courtois hadn't pulled off several world class saves it could have been double that, they destroyed them

I got badly burned when Real folded at Anfield.

Vicious J back.

My head tells me that Real Madrid are going to rip a new cut into Pep tonight at 3.65.

I know this is a two-leg affair and Real are vulnerable at the back but, given how Real know how needy and reedy home support at the Emirates is: is think the world-beating forward line will be going for this from the off. Not in possession terms, but on the break.

0-3, 1_3, 2-3.

The head-to-head record between two European superpowers in Manchester City and Real Madrid could hardly be tighter, as from 12 previous contests at Champions League level, both sides have accrued four wins apiece, while also shaking hands on another four draws.

don't mind the draw at 4.2/4.3...Madrid probably have to play a touch more cagily with defensive issues to protect...

It's just a question of whether Ancelotti actually realize that City are shot to bits and is brave enough to just attack them and turn this game into a tear up.

If he sets his side up to just go at them, City's midfield will run out of steam at some point,  City have always given sides chances on the counter, now with the inability to keep possession of the ball coupled with no legs through the middle the counters happen more and more often, and that happens against any team they play let alone Real Madrid. IMO.

i don't think city should be this short, hope they do win and make the 2nd leg a game in spain but they look very fragile on the counter

this, they've won more Champions League titles in the last 10 years than they have La Liga's.
