5th in big chances created from a nominal RB position...

pretty f***ing good tbf.. finished 5th in that category last season and 3rd the year before..

he certainly isn't the best defensively but he's a fantastic player..

I'd play him right side of midfield, supporting Salah, with Bradley or Gomez playing right-back behind TAA. He'd be able to pass, and cross the ball from that position. Passing is the best part of his game.Pretty decent with direct free kicks from 20-25 yards also. He's had a couple of good games for Liverpool this season, just needs to find his best more consistantly. If he is going to Madrid, hope its in January, regardless where Liverpool are in the league. 70 million+ will come in handy towards replacing Salah, Robbo and Van **** in a season or two.

The not good defensively is such a tired old trope. He's actually very good defensively. He's just asked to play a very offensive game so will often be caught upfield if there's a quick counter. But that's not his fault, he's simply doing his job.

He's the best right back in the game by a wide margin.

not having that tbh...Martinelli made him look silly at times last season..as soon as Bradley came on at RB he had no joy at all..

he has the rep for a reason..some of it's mentally switching off or being a bit lazy but he does get caught out and isn't great in one on ones against top players

He struggled with Anthony Gordon.

Leaving full back one on one or worse one on two
will expose anybody, and expecting them to play
wing back in a back four is expecting much.

Really needs a strong left back opposite him to
allow Liverpool defence to move across if required.

Trent is a great player, but more of a wingback for me.

Not sure he's grasped the midfield positioning,.. Yet.

The point is I don't think he gets caught out more than the average, and then it's usually because his manager's asking him to play so far up the pitch. He's not going to win every tackle and sometimes good wingers will do their job. But his great defensive games (see Chelsea for the latest one) are always dismissed and any mistakes are dredged up from the past.

Worse defensive full back Ive ever seen, but one of the best attacking-wise. Doesnt pick up his man, is easily dribbled past, doesnt  get goalside or infront of his opponent on crosses from the other side. A defensive liability.

Yeah, that Klopp eh. What an idiot persisting so long with such a bad full back. What an failure he was.

Anyone that thinks Trent cant defend should watch a repeat of the Liverpool v Chelsea game and just watch him for the whole game. He was absolutely superb.

Its become my default benchmark for a football fans intelligence. Anyone who says he cant defend, simply isn't a good judge.
By:

big difference between can't defend and isn't great defensively...for the level he's playing at..

based on one game Wan Bissaka is Maldini and Baresi rolled into one by the way...
By:

When: 24 Oct 24 13:58
One game? How about based on the whole season thus far? Liverpool have the best defensive record in the league and he's targeted as the weak link almost every single match...

Klopp demanded a lot from his full backs offensively. More than most Managers, so it was hardly surprising he was exposed at times. It was about set up as much as anything. The lad is a generational talent and will prove how good he is defensively under Slot.

I literally said earlier in the thread "he's a fantastic player"...

I'm not basing it on being out of position because of his role in the team...it's an eye test on seeing him play..

watch some of the cup game v Martinelli when they were one on one...it was embarrassing frankly..that was probably a really bad day for him but you could put together a dvd of sleepy moments and  plenty of ex pros say the same as I do...doesn't mean I'm right but the suggestion that a different view of a player makes you a poor judge is nonsense frankly...

Brentford, I was originally replying to TameTheTiger saying 'worse defensive full back Ive ever seen'... sorry should have made that clear. I mean that comment is genuinely laughable.

I stand by my original comment though. Its an opinions game at the end of the day, and we are all entitled to one. But Ive probably watched 70% of all his games in the flesh, and anyone who says he cant defend are being unfair. 'Isnt great defensively' is a watered down version, but I still disagree. The lad is a decent defender. A lot of players who would be considered top modern day full backs have days where they 'don't look great defensively' imo. In fact, its probably every single one of them to be fair. Its par for the course playing full back in attacking sides in the modern game.

There always seems to be a bigger spotlight on Trent and his mistakes are highlighted more than others imo. There is a lazy media narrative about him and hopefully that will change this year under the more controlled style Slot seems to play and with Trent having more help defensively than he used to.

Sancho is hardly a world beater but he literally didnt get anything out of Trent on Sunday. When Martinelli is on his game, he is a massive handful and could give most right backs a torrid time on his day, so I don't think its fair to highlight that game as proof Trent cant defend.

Its like Saliba and Gabrial. Many would consider them better than VVD and Konate. But they have two holding midfielders in from of them alot of the time, two more traditional fullbacks alongside them. Put them in the Klopp team of the last few years and they wouldn't look the same players.

as a liverpool fan of 66 years i love taa but i think he should go

in this modern era i thinkhes losthis way and has his head turned by money and thespanish

ido not blame him for that but in the interest of LFC he shd go.

whether he cuts it at RM remains to be seen.

i wish him well but i dont think he will make to much diffrence in tems of the outcomes of liverpools season

Not sure how you can say Trent has lost his way. I think his attacking output is slightly down, but as CCM says, that's simply due to the style of play altering a bit under the new manager.

I think he'll probably go to Real. Head being turned by money is fair, but the money is unreal. He'll probably be picking up around £50m+ as a signing on fee as well as his salary. It's astronomical money and he'd be a fool to not be seriously considering it.

As for us, we'll be losing the best right back in the world. Bradley looks decent but he's more of a Robbo-keen labrador type rather than someone with the game-changing class of Trent. Still young though. But we've been here before a million times where we lose a very good player, and we always seem to be ok.

hey PP by lost his way i think hes been messed around by the dilemma of his positional play by the prev manager

time for him to move on for him i reckon

Dunno man. The previous manager turned him into a generational talent and brought him every trophy there was to win. I'd doubt Trent would say he's been messed around by Klopp. The only ones who've done that are Southgate and lazy arses in the media who needed a narrative without having to think too hard.

I hope to god he stays as there's no-one better in that position. But he's right to be trying to make as much money as possible from his next contract.

Great teams play with a fluid back line.

In great teams the right winger is expected to thunder back and retrieve the ball from around his own penalty box.

TTA is not playing for Palace or Watford. His manager expects him to hunt out the ball and make good use of it not stand around being 2nd or 3rd cover for a position.

Hopefully anyway as I quite like Pool , and after the past few years where they've been unlucky not to properly celebrate a title win they deserve it more than anyone
