Switzerland at the prices..
we all know England can be better but after 4 games of very similar level against relatively limited opposition you can't really justify 'expecting' that improvement.. Swiss have largely been decent, well organised, some decent threat on counter attack, press well when they want to be the aggressor.. draw is short enough already so only really leaves a Swiss back on prices.. |

Swiss will get rolled.

When did the Swiss become so good at football? A few years ago they were rollovers. Is their football league superior to Scotland? Scotland is shouldered by foreign players to the detriment of local talents.

The Swiss were flattered in their victory over Italy. Who are undergoing something of an identity crisis after missing out on the last 2 world cups.
A far more revealing form line was their general lethargic display against Scotland. Play like that and even Southgate won't pass up the opportunity... |

The Swiss were flattered in their victory over Italy.
feel free to add to that... here's the game graph in the meantime..if BF let me post it (courtesy of sofascore)..looks massively like Swiss dominated and having gone 2-0 up sat back and Italy not good enough to hurt them...can recall a poor defensive header hitting their own post (Schar I think) ![]() |

And Ingerlund beat Italy home and away in the qualies..And Southgates mob are far from world beaters.
The point is that the Swiss were made to look better than they actually are. The Italians under Spalletti have been like fish out of water trying this new Pep style offensive football. In many ways Italy were the perfect opponent. With Southgate rumoured to be returning to his favoured back 5 system, I doubt the Schweiz will have it all their own way saturday night. As much as I would like them to. |
|
By:
right so it was more about lucking in to the opponent rather than flattered in the game..fair comment to some extent -
I certainly wouldn't expect the Swiss to dominate the game against England...I don't especially expect them to win it even but just don't agree with the prices ..Eng have already gone off odds on in this tournament 4 times and won once to this point..this will be the best of the sides they've faced imo.. |

I thought Switzerland would be favourites against England.
Is it weight of patriotic money shaping the odds? |

Expect they would being as they're topping the mkt to win it

Talk of England going to a back 3/5 like the Swiss. That might be a smart move and could help England to play better generally, athough it might cause a stalemate in this fixture.
Italy were atrocious against the Swiss and let them score 2 goals completely unchallenged. The Scotland game is not an indicator of format all. A draw suited the Swiss more than Scotland and virtually guaranteed them qualification without needing a result against Germany. Losing to Scotland would have put them behind the Scots on H2H with them facing an easier game. |

Swisserland havent beat Ingerland since 1982
13 attempts Suggest they have no chance!!! ![]() |

you know the answer to that is that those were different teams and doesn't have a bearing. Or should they therefore be priced at 14.0 and the 4.1 is a massive lay?

England a very generous 1.6x to qualify and 5.0 outright. We shine against teams that don't sit back. Incredible prices offered.

Playing with a back 3 presumably means Saka at left wingback. Guehi suspended so I guess Walker would be one of the back 3 with Konsa coming in, those two either side of Stones. Trippier or TAA at right wingback. Then the question is whether they have Bellingham available and if so where he plays - either alongside Rice with Mainoo missing out or as one of 3 attackers.
|

my sources tell me
..................Pickford.................. .........Walker......Konsa......Stones....... ...T-A-A.........Rice....Mainoo...........Shaw .............Bellingham........Foden.......... .....................Kane..................... |
|
By:
would have thought Konsa would be the left of the 3 center halves, Stones in the middle..
hell of a gamble to put Shaw in - hasn't played a competitive game since 18th Feb... quite like the idea of playing with a back 3 and TAA as a wing back but although sometimes this stuff just clicks...suddenly playing a different way to what you've spent most of the last 3 years doing makes a bit of a mockery of the preparations... the 2 no.10's is nice in theory but to date there has been little evidence of any great footballing chemistry between the two.. |
|
By:
Shaw wouldn't have the legs to play wingback even if he was 100%. He could play left CB though.
|
|
By:
when he's fully match fit gets up and down the wing as well as anyone (makes Rashford look a better player as he's always supporting on overlap/underlap) but he's a player that generally needs some games under his belt to look anywhere close to his best..

If it's Mes team he should switch Bellingham and Foden. Bellingham often drifts/plays from the left for Real and Foden likes to start from right of centre and come inside onto his left foot. Foden out left is coming inside onto his weaker foot. You want both of them coming inside onto their strong foot. Foden is not a winger and won't go outside on his left much, hasn't got the pace to take a player on out there either. With WBs you can afford to push one at a time up high to provide width when attacking up one side.
I don't think he'll drop Saka as he is the most defensively aware and versatile attacker and can play in many positions if he wants to change things up. He would likely get the LWB spot and provide width high up the pitch too. Have TAA attacking and crossing from the right (with Jude arriving from the left) and Foden coming inside (or Palmer who is also left-footed). Much harder to press too if you have 3 CBs spread wide and WBs higher up on the touchline with a left-footed LWB. But against the Swiss it will effectively be the same formation as them and they might cancel each other out. |
|
By:
Knowing Southgate he will probably see it as a good way to neutralise the Swiss rather than a formation which seems to suit his players better generally.
|
|
By:
It's saka left wing back.

Rice could easily drop into defence or just ahead if two wing backs are advanced
together... |

I think it will be a really interesting match and hope the Swiss take it to England. That would be England's best chance assuming Southgate will not play Englund's best team, whatever that is. We know what Englund's best team is not because he keeps playing it!

If Sake playing left wing back will he go on the outside? The other day when he moved there he still kept coming inside, Hopefully give us the width we are crying out for and whip in some crosses for Kane to attack.

Hopefully we can all stick to one thread; would be a shame on an England game if the forum is split, especially as it has the potential to be the last.
Hoping for a draw then come what may. On a 4x draw accumulator with 2 in the bag. |
