But according to the TV coverage, he challenged the ref changing the added injury time from 5 to 6 minutes and Rice got involved for some reason
According to my Slovakian lip reading friend...He called Rice "an overrated water carrier" But according to the TV coverage, he challenged the ref changing the added injury time from 5 to 6 minutes and Rice got involved for some reason
rice is fine as a defensive midfielder we all know that but clearly hes not creative, there is currently no great midfielder like bryan robson, glen hoddle etc so we have to just got on with what we have

Are you a simpleton Norbert, Rice was at West Ham for the majority of his career with limited chances to win a trophy, 1 season at Arsenal and he lost out of the league to a state run football club, don't know why you're pandering to this Irish moron RacingQueen either and his incessantly tendious Anti English posts who is still butt hurt like all those other mugs after Rice rejected them for England, his actual home country. You think a lack of medals is the reason he hasn't performed, nothing to do with Southgate's poor team selection, tactics and playing players out of position, he's had Partey or Jorghino at Arsenal in central midfield allowing him further forward where he is actually efffective, for England he's had T-A-A one game, Gallagher the next, a poor defender and a headless chicken, then in comes a 19 year old with no experience who's done ok but is no Partey.

Rice was one of England's best players against Slovakia, if not the best. He largely did his job well, whereas nearly every other player didn't. It's not his job to create or score but he still came closest to scoring before England actually did.
He looks for the forward ball but it is rarely on. England have always had this problem under Southgate. Everything is sideways out to the wings and then backwards. England's build-up play is atrocious, low tempo, predictable and easy to defend against. They don't have one left-footed player in the team who plays like a left-footed player. Foden stays narrow and comes inside onto his (weaker) right. Saka plays on the right with no full-back support on either side. They restrict themselves to using 70% of the pitch as a result. United had similar problems last season with all right-footed players.

Graeme Souness was on talksport saying he didnt think Rice can play on the half turn, which GS said is pretty much essential in the modern game. For me, Declan Rice, like many modern footballers has what Leo Di Caprio did describe in the film Departed as .. 'A Bad haircut, no dress sense and a slight, you know, air of scumbag entitlement.' I just think he came through at West Ham under the wing of Mark Noble, for my money one of the most under-rated midfielders in the recent past of the EPL. TO be fair DR followed the example of Noble but didnt really take up the reins when Nobes retired. I think he definately has it in him. I do recall a cup game on the Beeb when the Hammers found themselves 1 down to Kidderminster. Rice grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck. Think he scored and WHU won, avoiding one of the most embarrassing results since... er.. well the last time England played. (Sorry, Mes, cant help myself). It feels like he has all the physical gifts to be a great but seems happy just to coast. Dont really know if he is that much of an upgrade on Granit Xhaka at the @rsenal. Xhaka went over to Germany and was instrumental in Leverkusen winning the Bundesliga. Still, the two of them are going to face off saturday so I guess we will learn more then....

have to agree about mark noble, fine allround midfielder who if hed played for man u arseal liverpool etc would have been an automatic choice for his country

I like Rice; he's competent and committed to his role. He's no Toni Kroos, who somehow manages to thread a pass through the eye of a needle, something Rice is incapable of, or so it would appear, but as a defensive midfielder he's solid and, fwiw, my MOM against Serbia; not so sure about Slovakia though, but by then I was fast losing interest in the whole England set-up. He has more in the tank, as previous England games have proven, so I'm hopeful the best is yet to come... starting on Saturday!

I modelled my own game on Jan Molby. He was so composed, always in space, with excellent vision and could place a ball on a sixpence. If I was still playing today, I would be trying to emulate Kroos, who is far better. I guess we all see the game differently SNC.

He's been the best player of the tournament has Rice, does a lot of work off the ball nobody sees, would stroll into the 1970's Brazil team, a proper Rolls Royce of a player, you should all be getting down on your knees and licking his boots as an act of gratefulness he's English. Kind Regards.
