It's a very tough tie for West ham, made harder as bayern seem to
have given up in league.

This tie could be vital for spurs or villa getting champs league spot
as it's awfully tight between England and Germany for
second extra spot.

Good luck West ham.

From BBC Sport today....

Jarrod Bowen will miss the first leg of West Ham's Europa League quarter-final against Bayer Leverkusen on Thursday because of a knee injury.

The forward, who has scored 19 goals this season, sustained the injury against Wolves on Saturday and might also miss the return leg on 18 April.

"Jarrod isn't with us. He's twisted his knee and there's some sort of damage," said Hammers boss David Moyes.

"We can't give any dates of when he might be back, unfortunately."

Bowen came off after 54 minutes during the win at Wolves and has been a key player for West Ham this season.

"He's an England international and we know how important he is to our team, so he'll be a miss for sure. But we have good players who can come in, so we'll stay positive," added Moyes.

West Ham midfielder Edson Alvarez is suspended, while midfielder Kalvin Phillips and goalkeeper Alphonse Areola will also be absent through injury for the game against Bundesliga leaders Leverkusen.

"I see it as a great opportunity," said Moyes. "We've had a good run in Europe and played a lot of good teams, and we play another one.

"Hopefully, we can rise to the challenge and perform well. Both teams have 11 players, so it's an even game at the start.

"We know Leverkusen are a very good team, but we believe in our abilities."

Leverkusen have a 16-point lead in the Bundesliga with six games to go, and are unbeaten in all 41 matches this season in all competitions.

"It could be the toughest challenge yet. They haven't lost for a long time, and we know how well they have played this season," said West Ham defender Kurt Zouma.

"But we are still confident. We know the qualities we have and we showed that against Freiburg in the last round.

"We always play to win. We know we might be missing some key players, but we have a good squad and we'll all give 100%."

Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso was linked with replacing Jurgen Klopp as Liverpool boss but recently confirmed he would be staying at the German club.

"We know what West Ham can do. They have experience in Europe - last season they were champions of the Conference League," said Alonso.

"We want to go further and starting tomorrow and then next week in London, we have to play to our own game. We are ready."

Report Bindaree April 12, 2024 10:47 PM BST
Well I love West Ham but unfortunately they have been almost unwatchable for at least 10 years now. Moyes is a good honest person but he's nowhere good enough in this age. He's had players like Haller and Anderson who are class players but he likes the boring jack of all trades master of none types. All this rubbish about how wonderful he's been really doesn't stack up. We finished last season in 14th, 1 point ahead of Bournemouth for goodness sake. Yes we all joked about winning a European trophy but it was against teams that finished at best 3rd or 4th in leagues that most Pl teams would beat if they put out their best eleven. Should have stuck with Pelligrini.
Report sparrow April 12, 2024 11:07 PM BST

You having a laugh spent £180 million and we had to be rescued from relegation by Moyes.  Never heard such nonsense after a 6th and 7th place finish and three seasons in Europe.
Report Bindaree April 12, 2024 11:15 PM BST
Suggest you check the facts Sparrow. Forget the Bournemouth game as Moyes was only appointed the day before and it was Pelligrinis side Moyes actually got less points per game. With Pelligrini (who actually has been success with all his clubs) we used to have more than 30% possession.
Report sparrow April 12, 2024 11:34 PM BST
Yes it was great with Pellegrini as we slid towards relegation, unfortunately you don't get points for possession and that was why we had to get back Moyes to save us again. I really can't believe some of our fans who seem to have no idea of the total lack of success this club has had over the years and I've been a fan since the mid 50s. All those great players in the 60s decade and the highest finish was eighth.

Report scandanavian_haven April 13, 2024 8:48 AM BST
what are you even talking about? just a weird post, who said I know everything about the player, all I've said is that he barely played any fully matches the whole season, just 3 prem games in total, stands to reason you can't build up momentum, confidence and understanding with teammates not to mention getting up to speed the pace of the league, no doubt homesick as stated but many players are homesick to begin with. My first post was he was barely given a chance by Moyes and you keep asking me 'what team do you support' Crazy

agree with the other two west ham fans that say he is a good player, but didn't get that chance in the Premier League.

In the 60s and 70s we did win the FA Cup on three occasions. Also won the European Cup winners Cup (stronger competition than the 3rd tier Conference Cup) and were runners up in it. Above all we played entertaining football and attracted a huge amount of fans who aren't local to the team, I know as i am one and know of many others. I actually know a guy who has moved to where I am, from West Ham territory, and he goes to every game home and away and he says the football is "dire".
Report sparrow April 13, 2024 10:10 AM BST
That European Cup winners competition was no better than the Conference win and in the 60s we known as a soft touch by other clubs. Never once did we get anywhere near challenging for that league title because of our hopeless defending and if you have read Bobby Moore's book you will find out why. The manager we have now who is despised by a certain section of our fans has achieved higher finishes than any of our 1960s efforts and yet that team had three World Cup winners involved!

No idea why you're being so argumentative about it.

My point was that winning that European competition in 1965 was no great achievement and we have to remember that the squad with all those great players we had never finished higher than 8th place in the 60s.  We simply couldn't defend because the manager Greenwood wouldn't listen to his captain. As I always say read Bobby Moore's book as its all in there.

Report tobermory April 14, 2024 11:31 PM BST
The old Cup Winner's Cup was certainly stronger than the Conference thing.

The top 6 teams from the strongest leagues are excluded from the conference, as well as the top 3 or 4 from most other leagues.

The CWC would typically have the 2nd or 3rd best team from all leagues, and at that time being 2nd best in Czechoslovakia or Switzerland did not mean you were a no hoper (because there was more parity between leagues)
Report Bindaree April 15, 2024 9:13 AM BST
The year we won it we beat Munich 1860 who won the Bundesliga the following year. It was a prestigious tournament competed by winners and all the sides in it played their strongest teams from the start whereas the conference cup is a mickey mouse losers tournament where most of the better teams don't even bother to put out their strongest teams until later stages. Some of those teams would struggle in the Championship. It's just another tournament created to extract money from the fans. They'll have one for teams that finish halfway in their league next.

Some truth in that yhtl as you can't be successful if you can't defend. Time and again we scored some great goals in the 60s and gave away stupid ones but eventually you learn the lesson. It took me to 1968 to realise this after a game at home to Stoke where we led 3-0 at half time and lost 4-3 and it finally dawned on me!..
Here is that game...
