Italian Federation ban... does that apply to Newcastle Confused

It'll probably follow anyway.

the way n,castle, eddie howe, msm are treating this bloke you,d think he was the innocent party worried about his mental health etc,if he was still at milan all 3 of above would be saying he should be banned for life and shouldnt be allowed to play for milan against n,castle in ch lg etc
maybe howe and co  just trying a smokescreen operation because milan have pulled the geordies pants down in public

Protecting an asset.

He's been stupid betting on stuff he was not allowed to bet on.

I thought he bet on Milan to win, but not seen
actual proof of backing them to win lose draw.

10 months seems lenient, and Howe will have him back
next season, why would he and Newcastle fans
act any differently if they want him back at
his best next season.

Don't want a ten hag v Sancho when it's not good for club.
Report 1st time poster October 26, 2023 2:47 PM BST
of course but local news every night non stop worrying about him,as though he,s the innoicent bystander,as well as the actual betting ,people asking /blaming milan,
he deffo new what was coming so was conning utd when signing, fool me once, fool me twice
Report ----you-have-to-laugh--- October 26, 2023 2:59 PM BST
Clearly he isn't innocent, the reporting
is all from Newcastle angle isn't it, I'm sure
Sunderland and boro fans would love to get stuck into
his potential cheating to land his bets.

That's why it's banned,.. And folk are right to
point out the bad angle.

But Newcastle want to protect an asset.

I don't know how you stop a footballer from gambling

Bookies try to stop winners punting, and can't.
Report PorcupineorPineapple October 26, 2023 4:13 PM BST
Daft to bet on Milan games (though not certain by any means he was trying to bend them).

But the whole oh the poor little lamb act when these players are found out is really grating. He's having a punt, that's all. Players lead very regimented, very dull lives nowadays. If they're not playing FIFA all day what do they do. Let them have a bet and stop being so precious about it ffs.
Report brentford October 26, 2023 4:41 PM BST
he can legitimately bet on anything other than football to be fair PP...it's not that unreasonable a restriction in the interests of avoiding grey areas..
Report ALIEN SEX FIEND October 26, 2023 5:01 PM BST
In his defense.... no pun intended, people are being Holy Joes and should grow up and stop sniping. He really thought the bets were on FIFA 23 not real matches, honest.
Report s.kenbo October 26, 2023 5:01 PM BST
I really don’t see the harm in footballers being able to bet on football matches. Just ban from from betting in competitions they’re involved in.
Report Tiger Tiger October 26, 2023 5:08 PM BST
They know the rules. Ten month ban is deserved.

The question is, did Milan know about this before selling him to Newcastle?
Report Aspro October 26, 2023 5:08 PM BST
Whilst I tend to side with you s.kenbo, what if he is betting on games that his friends are playing in? Italy for example?
Report s.kenbo October 26, 2023 5:14 PM BST
His friends will be playing top class football. They won’t be throwing games so he can win a bet. Any novelty bets that could easily be landed for friends and family probably fall by the wayside every other week.
Report Aspro October 26, 2023 5:17 PM BST
Agreed, which is why I generally side with you, but if he suddenly lands a biggie on a game with known associates, this will wave a red flag with the authorities. They're covering all their bases with a blanket ban. Hard to argue with.
Report TheGoldenVision October 26, 2023 5:19 PM BST
Poor old Tony Kaye and his mates. From banned for life to a slap on the wrist.
Report ----you-have-to-laugh--- October 26, 2023 5:20 PM BST
Football wants fans to lose their shirts betting
on football, so they take the money and advertise the
product in the ground and on players chests.

Advertising works

What do they expect...
Report scandanavian_haven October 26, 2023 5:24 PM BST
the football associations are partly to blame, they saturate the game with betting advertisements so it stands to reason players with a lot of time and money on their hands are going to succumb to temptation. Some of these bans are on a par with missed drugs tests.
Report s.kenbo October 26, 2023 5:25 PM BST
I bet there’s players in every country telling their mates to get on first throwing, first goal kick, first corner etc. I’d imagine it’d still be pretty difficult for that player to be able to land the bet.

The only bet they could land (off the top of my head) is a booking, and we’ve seen on here the scrutiny some of these betting patterns go under.
Report ----you-have-to-laugh--- October 26, 2023 5:27 PM BST

First throw-in was regularly abused. Get your mate to bet on 0-30 seconds and straight from kick- off boot the ball out of play. "Misplaced pass, sorry".... drinks all round.
Report Aspro October 26, 2023 5:33 PM BST
iirc Dennis Wise kicked the ball out of play from the KO. Following that, time of first throw-in was stopped.
Report s.kenbo October 26, 2023 5:34 PM BST
The books will be betting to 120% on a player getting booked. They win either way!

They only scream ‘foul’ when one of them costs them a few quid.
Report lurka October 26, 2023 5:35 PM BST
The scandal broke in Italy on 2 August when a Juve player was outed as having a serious problem and running up 3m in debt to dodgy bookies. Tonali moved on 2 July but I'd say he knew it was coming, Milan too probably. Sounds like they were betting with the mob and it was going on for a few years. Zaniolo is involved too but only expected to receive a fine.
Report s.kenbo October 26, 2023 5:37 PM BST
I know an ex-pro from the 80’s who stopped the ball going out for an early throw-in. His teammates gave him a load of stick for it but they never told him. Been going on for years.

considering the amount of debts they,ve got through gambling  its strange that no one ever accuses golfers of manipulating tournaments/markets,when a player can miss a cut or a dozen without any ?,s been asked

Mickelson was involved with a pro gambler who
used micklesons account which took unlimited
bets.

He was discussing betting on ryder cup but says
He did not.

I  spoke with many pro golfers about betting and
hardly any bet at all let alone on golf.

Peter Alliss liked a punt, but I didn't speak
to him about betting until long after his retirement.

There was a tour pro used to post on golf forum, and
He knew which golfers punted, and which ones from
America used to bet on betfair and post on the
forum. Some very very famous golfers...

Report PorcupineorPineapple October 26, 2023 8:04 PM BST
Thing is players can still fix games. You'd have to be daft to open an account in your own name and then back yourself to get a card. So the idea of stopping players' betting to combat match fixing is nonsense.
