I haven't seen either... Are they any good?

I was hoping to find out on here ! The resume's seem interesting and rotten toms rate them highly.

I’ve watched a few dubbed ones on Netflix. The problem is half the stuff on my screen now is foreign. I’d like an option to either remove it altogether or put it in a foreign category.

Being a bit deaf I use subtitles anyway so it makes no odds to me !

I always have subtitles on myself. I don’t read them that much but I find it handy for the odd missed sentence or strong accent.

Seen a couple of new films this week.

Carolina Caroline ....  Modern day Bonnie and Clyde, 2 main characters gave it a good shot. Overall not bad 6/10

Tuner .....Apprentice piano tuner turned safe cracker. Can pick a ew holes in it but I thought an enjoyable enough movie. Hitting most of the right notes 6/10

Just watched Hell Or High Water again. Probably watched it 10 years or so ago so couldn't quite remember all that happened. Enjoyed it very much again. Cops & robbers film with some pretty good acting. Jeff Bridges, Chris Pine and Ben Foster. One of Taylor Sheridan's earlier writes. Also wrote Wind River which came out a year later which is also good. (Totally unconnected). If he's your cup of tea, you'll enjoy them. His stuff usually on paramount.

Talking of movies watched before.. I'm Halfway through Mystic River on Netflix... Brilliant 9.

Have just seen 'The Odyssey' the new Christopher Nolan film,an adaptation of Homer's ancient Greek epic poem the Odyssey. I have to say, the lad has done it again, it a cliche, but they don't make them like this anymore. It is much hyped but it didn't disappoint, it's an epic and nearly 3 hours long, it cuts back and forth in time which Nolan likes to do but I had just watched 'Memento'( another Nolan film - streaming on FIVE at the moment) the other day so this was easy to follow in comparison. Must be seen at the Cinema in my opinion to get full effect. 4.5 out of 5.

I don’t really enjoy many on Nolan’s films. This latest one I wouldn’t even consider watching. It’s far away from anything I’d want to watch.

I thought The Prestige was his best film. A 10/10 for me.

It started off well enough but dragged on. The last episode was ridiculous and the ending bodged, presumably in the hope of squeezing a second series out of it.

My thoughts exactly, Wicklow. If you were around ten years old  in the late eighties or early nineties the WWF was great fun.

Yes I was born in 78, so it watching some of the old faces and the storylines which I was pretty oblivious to when I was a teen. Just a shame the Undertaker didn't make an appearance, as he used top dollar back in the day.
Anyhow I never really appreciated what Hogan done for wrestling as a sport, and you deny him that. Yah he made mistakes, but when your that famous and have that much money, its bound to happen. Look at Tiger sure etc and we all thought he was clean cut.

To see the damage he done to his body - and the frail man in the opening scenes, its not to get pulled into it.

There's so much bad TV out there at the mo, and I was sure that would binned after 10 mins, but I gave me a few nights entertainment which is a rarity at the moment.

Firstly, it's only on in the cinema not on a streaming service, secondly the film is nearly 3 hours long, so if you've only watched 25 minutes, or even an hour, you have only watched at most 1/3 of it, so you are in no position to review it. There are some people who just want to criticise anything that is popular because they makes them feel superior to the common consensus. If you had done a bit of prep you would have been aware a lot of critics have mentioned the film is slow to take off, but the last two thirds more than make up for it. The attention span of whole generations has been destroyed by them fannying about on their mobiles 24/7.

Been a pirated copy of The Odyssey available on P2P for over 3 weeks.

Having see the stars hyping the film wall-to-wall on American TV I simply can't be bothered downloading a copy.

Just finished the 5th and final Series of "Southland" and it knocks spots off the other Cop shows the likes of NYPD Blue and Chicago PD and The Shield etc....how they let this finish after 5 seasons is a mystery as it was literally getting better each series unlike some of the ones mentioned earlier.

Highly recommended.

Just watched " The outlaw Josey Wales " and couldnt believe after the credits were shown the announcer saying if anyone with similar problems or were affected by the film to contact them for counselling.

  If ever a few words could sum up the state of this country now it was those.

Was just kidding, Joe. Please don't take my criticism of this movie personally. To be honest, I can't remember the last recently released movie that I've enjoyed and can recommend.

Watched the last episode (10) of Seven Seconds on Netflix last night.

Not often I get all the way through one but this kept me interested. Well worth a look.

Just finished all 10 episodes of Cape Fear. When it was good it was pretty good but 6 or 7 episodes would have sufficed. Like Nobby said poor ending. It's a Dark one tho.

Two people I met over the weekend both said "The Odyssey " was absolutely pony.

Hollywood gave up the entertainment side of their business years ago. It's all about the Benjamins now.

Just watched Little Bird on sky atlantic. 6 episode drama all ready to watch now. About the treatment of indigenous children of Canada and America and how they were literally stolen by authorities to be adopted/fostered. Tad slow at times but a steady 7/10 from me all the same. Hard to believe this went on and still apparently does.

It is worth a watch sofa, just for the story alone. 8.2 on imdb, personally wouldn't rate it that good. As far as I know all done in one series.

It really was a pile of half-baked cr4p.

I watched "Christy" with Sydney Sweeney as boxer Christy Martin.

It was a huge box office flop but I liked it and S.S. really is quite an accomplished actress as well as being rather attractive. I'd happily give it a 6.5/10 job.

Florence Pugh is my favourite actress though having said that.
She absolutely rocks

.  Ok, that's a dealbreaker for me. I did try watch that movie but gave up after maybe 20 minutes.

We went to see him last week at our local town hall. He was abysmal.

I watched Emily (2022).. BBC i player.. EMILY imagines Emily Brontë’s own Gothic story that inspired her seminal novel, "Wuthering Heights."

Grabbed me and I really enjoyed it..

The entire 8 episode 2nd season of the Gentlemen by Guy Richie with Vinnie Jones was released on Netflix a few days ago. 1st series was 2 years ago.

Saw the film Pressure on my return flight which is about the relationship between Eisenhower and the UK's chief meteorologist in the lead up to D-Day and which is in cinemas from Wednesday.  If you like war movies this is a bit different and I'd recommend it.  It's more historically accurate than The Imitation Game, which is probably the movie it's most similar to.  Personally, I preferred it as The Imitation Game had too much dramatic licence and factual distortions for my taste.

TV has been so dreadful I've been working my way through the Grand Designs archive on Channel 4.

"The Terror" a 10 part series on Sky Atlantic is the best thing I've seen in recent months.

Rotten Tomatoes give it a massive 97%.
IMDb a more realistic 7.8/10.

I'll score it 8.5/10, with the thumb, which is quite high for me.
You won't be disappointed I'm sure.

Watched the first season of The Terror on the BBC set in the Arctic, very strange, tried the second but gave up, might give the third a try.

Yes, 3 separate series of The Terror. Really enjoyed the first one from yonks ago. Can't remember the 2nd one, but will give the new one a go on slippys recommendtaion. Once I've finished Seven Seconds.

2nd series of Mobland on Paramount has started. 10 episodes - 1 a week until 20 Nov

Last Seen on Apple seems decent. 3 episodes of 6 released. 1 a week until 7 Oct

Watched the first season of Mobland and will give the second a go but Brosnan and Mirren characters are utterly ridiculous.

I saw "De Gaulle" earlier this week - its worth a watch if you are interested in WW2 history. Its a French film with English sub titles, so its WW2 from a French point of view.

There is a part 2 to the De Gaulle film.

It's a difficult film to assess.

If you like intense, dark and highly charged emotional films you'll probably like it.
I'm unsure as I'm not completely certain what it's really all about.

The critics score it highly but you'll have to see it for yourself and form your own opinion. I'd go against the tide personally and give it a mediocre 5/10.

The Whisper Man on Netflix is decent.......anything with RDN is decent is fairness

There’s a podcast on bbc sounds. It’s the best and funniest program ever made.

It should be on bbc 1 prime time Saturday night,from a local theatre.instead of Micheal macintyre.

It’s called mark steels in town.

He goes round the country ,does his research of the local area and history,then does a radio programme with a live audience for radio 4.

It’s exactly what the bbc is for,every town has its own idiosyncrasies,and he highlights them.not only is it very interesting about the history and nuances of the local town ,it’s very funny.

It could run for years because there’s so many towns ,villages.etc.

He did Glastonbury,which has loads of physic shops,and a William hill bookies,which he said,they’re taking a risk with all the physics,

Hebden bridge,the lesbian capital of Britain,

Matlock bath,thinks it’s a coastal town,every shop is a fish and chip shop.

Endless jokes,history and a look into the local area.

It really needs to be on tv,,it’s wasted hidden away on radio 4

Matlock Bath is in the heart of the Derbyshire Peak District and although it has something of a coastal feel it is very much landlocked.
My brother and his family holidayed there a few months ago, very much enjoyed it.

Not sure it featured on the promotional trailer when my brother was looking to book online, although knowing him that's probably why he chose there

Watched  "Nocturnal Animals" on Netflix tonight.

Must say it is very good and worth a look.

Nothing specific but for those who like old british films from  the 50s 60s 70s and 80s ought to give British Screen Classics tv channel a try.

The "Monster" episodes on Netflix are also very good....The Ed Gein story, as well as Dahmer, Lizzie Borden and Aileen Wuornos are all quite dark but very watcheable.

Tim Roth's portrayal of John Christie in the BBC's Rillington Place is the best one of these types I've ever seen...haunting stuff, 10/10.


If you like the serial killer stuff, watch it!!!!

Another thumbs up for barstool and Nocturnal Animals. Like Jake GyllenhaaL, so was somewhat surprised I hadn't seen this already as made in 2016. But well worth the wait. Very good and quite original imo.

Yeah me too, also gave up on Ed Gein (same series). Maximise the gore, stray into gratuitous, plus quirky, adding up to gawping at a freak show.

The Lizzie Borden monster was the worst so far. Managed to get to the end but ridiculous sub plots/stories made it hard work. The French book the most insufferable. Surely they could have found a better subject than this? Was always going to be difficult to do a whole series from a double murder. On a plus point, the soundtrack was pretty good.

I enjoyed the Menendez brothers adaptation. Gave up on the Ed Gein one after two episodes. Not even gonna try and watch the Liz Borden one.

The Heiress (1949) directed by William Wyler.
Flicked onto it the other day on ch4 and Ralph Richardson was immediately mesmerising.
Olivia De H also brilliant.
Gets 100% on rotten tomatoes.
