Aspro, tell us about Billy Hill's involvement with John Aspinall please.
Report Aspro October 31, 2023 9:25 AM GMT
It is pretty obvious you already know ub, but I guess I'm obliged to answer. Suffice to say it involved a tasty scam, using cleverly marked cards at Aspinall's club to con the wealthy. Hill and Aspinall split the profits of this scam, until Aspinall decided to end it. My only surprise is that Hill accepted this without any fuss, or so the story goes. Personally I think there was more to this split, there had to be.

A great movie (imo) that hasn't been mentioned here is 'Snatch' which is comfortably within my Top 10. I'm sure most of you have seen it, but if you haven't, don't let life pass you by without at least one viewing.

A little bit of trivia for those that have seen it... Brad Pitt was so impressed with Guy Ritchie's 'Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels' that he actually asked if he could be in his next movie. As Pitt had not long finished 'Fight Club' he was not looking for a similar role, but he couldn't master the cockney accent (not many Americans can tbf), hence why he had no choice but to accept the role of Mickey, the Irish fighter.

In 'Lock, Stock..' Ritchie was criticised for some of the dialect, so rather than make it easier to understand, he purposely made Mickey's role even more difficult to understand, to take a swipe at the critics. Brilliant!

The Killers of Flower Moon film at the local pictures.

Well worth the admission money - over 3 hours long

Based on true events where a red Indian tribe owned land in Oklahoma with oil in 1919. Suddenly tribe members were worth $600,000 a year each in income, but the income went the white guardians and any money had to be requested. White guys would hang around the town looking for red indian women of the tribe to marry or basically selling their services, so they avoid working and just drink and gamble and other things all day. The Indians were ripped off by local white trades people who charged them a much higher price for goods and services. Indians then started to be found murdered. Many Indians were also dying from diabetes as theor bodies struggled to cope with sugar and other processed Western foods. The local police chief also ran the local Ku Klux Klan and rode a horse in the 4th July parade with his robes on. Racism and sexism was completely rife, but officially everyone was equal. De Niro was excellent as a local cattle baron pulling all the strings and Di Capro was his nephew on the make.

Michael Sheen and Ruth Wilson to star in Prince Andrew Newsnight drama

Michael Sheen and Ruth Wilson are to headline BBC and Amazon’s A Very Royal Scandal, starring as Prince Andrew and Emily Maitlis.

According to Variety, production is already under way and, according to the official description will follow “Emily Maitlis’s professional and personal journey as a Newsnight journalist, leading up to her acclaimed interview with Prince Andrew.”

The notorious 2019 interview saw the prince confronted with sex trafficking allegations with Jeffrey Epstein and caused him to step back from royal duties and pay a financial settlement to his alleged victim, Virginia Giuffre, who was 17 at the time of the incident.

When asked why he would stay in the house of a convicted sex offender, Andrew called it a “convenient place to stay”. He added: “I admit fully my judgement was probably coloured by my tendency to be too honourable but that’s just the way it is.”

he anthology drama has previously focused on other tabloid scandals involving Jeremy Thorpe in A Very English Scandal starring Hugh Grant, and Margaret Campbell, Duchess of Argyll in A Very British Scandal starring Claire Foy.

Sheen continues to star in Amazon’s fantasy show Good Omens alongside David Tennant and is also known for roles in Frost/Nixon and The Queen. Wilson was last seen in the acclaimed TV drama The Woman in the Wall and is also known for her role in the long-running series The Affair.

The series will also star Joanna Scanlan as Andrew’s former aide Amanda Thirsk and Alex Jennings as Sir Edward Young. It will be directed by the British director Julian Jarrold whose credits include Kinky Boots and White Teeth.

Last year it was also announced that the Criminal Justice writer Peter Moffat was set to turn the interview into a film called Scoop. Earlier this year it was confirmed to be hitting Netflix and will star Rufus Sewell and Gillian Anderson.
