We all told you so at the time BBC!
Source:  Mail On Line Sports.

"The most dramatic fall in viewing figures coincides with Alex Scott replacing Dan Walker as Focus’ main presenter in 2021. In Walker’s last season before he was moved on the average weekly August audience was 827,000, before dropping to 809,000 in 2021, 599,000 12 months later and 564,000 this year.

Scott is not being blamed by her bosses, though, and remains highly regarded at the BBC, who are set to give the former England defender a prominent presenting role at next summer’s Olympics".

It's bound to happen elsewhere too.

It's terrible ,Alex Scott seems like a nice enough person, but I don't enjoy watching her present shows, better as a guest maybe ?That and the BBC and their woke agenda ,mean it's a no from me.

This is why the licence fee needs to be scrapped

it's like Soccer Saturday, it's been pants for years, doesn't matter who the presenter is, we're saturated these days with alternative forms of news and entertainment, MOTD is beaten to it by instant highlights on youtube or twitter. Football focus is past it's sell by date and making anything original costs money so the BBC are reluctant and persist with pap like Eastenders and Stictly, which is surely only watched by granny's in care homes. Eastenders is actually a good example, still on at prime time, 15-20 years ago before the rise of social media, youtube, netflix, on demand telly etc, it was getting 15 million + every episode, now less than 2 million and dwindling. The yoof of today barely watch telly so shows like FF will naturally die out eventually anyway. People who run the BBC know full well the license fee is so outdated and probably cannot believe they've gotten away with it for so long, it's funny when the go-to defence is 'it's loved and admired all over the world lol, of course it is it's free for them with no adverts.

Nails it really.

It could be presented by nearly anybody these days and it wouldn't matter.

More games on at lunchtime anyway
Shows like this are surviving, Soccer Saturday being a prime example
TV viewing has long changed
Football Focus is preceded by "The Great Food Guys" but more importantly afterwards is no longer Grandstand, but "Bargain Hunt".

It's on a hiding to nothing whoever presents it.

So the figures show people sopped watching immediately on Scotts appointment and nota  gradual drop off? In other words people (you lot) made up their mind about it before and didn't watch anyway. New presenter a women, she's brown so it must be 'woke'. I mean that is a 6yo childs intelligence.
I'm pretty sure if Matt letiss had been appointed presenter (as many on here called for!) ff would have stopped years ago. I haven't watched for about 20 years!

spyker - typical of you to come at it from that angle Sad, i would have said that the infantile outlook is more yours than others.

Most would have continued tuning in at the start of Scott's tenure but (like me) would have rapidly tired of the changes, there were too many sob stories, minorities (especially women's football), diversity angles etc being pushed all the time. Nothing wrong with having some of that of course but it was often being aired at the expense of previewing the actual weekends games as well as reviewing the previous weeks results.

Constantly having female ex players opining about the men's game when the two are so different also grates with many of us. It's the same with cricket, they may know the rules of the sport and would have played at a decent standard against other women, but trying to make out they know what it's like to face express pace when batting is laughable - the fastest woman bowler has been clocked at 82mph, whereas the men routinely bowl in the mid 90s mph, a huge difference.
Report Des Pond April 25, 2026 2:45 PM BST
The last time I watched it would've been when Bob Wilson got a little too earnest for my liking, causing me to turn over to Saint & Greavsie for a bit of a laugh. The idea of watching any football magazine programme, hasn't appealed to me for at least 25 years. Especially when there are live matches on at the same time. Surprised it has lasted this long. Maybe it was aimed at kids (boys and girls) who otherwise might not have been brought up with football.
Report 1830 April 25, 2026 2:48 PM BST
Anybody rememer Sam Leitch before Football Focus? Basically the same thing but a differnt name.
Report ----you-have-to-laugh--- April 25, 2026 2:58 PM BST
Sam leitch was good with his previews.

I doubt he played much sport, maybe goalie at school.
Report bettinghelp April 25, 2026 3:37 PM BST
It was a pretty feeble show back in the 70s too.

The BBC have always been good at feeble.
Report ----you-have-to-laugh--- April 25, 2026 3:47 PM BST
It was feeble but it was a big part of the invention of TV previews
Report ----you-have-to-laugh--- April 25, 2026 6:14 PM BST
Rooney is brilliant, he's a bit difficult to understand, at times,
but very much worth the effort.
