Steve Bruce retires from management

Seems a decent bloke, I find him quite likeable. Although he was a big part of the cheating culture at Man Utd in the 90's. I remember one game when he wrestled an opponent to the ground, sat on top of him for several seconds, then somehow successfully harangued the ref into giving him the free kick. I find it funny now, but at the time it was very frustrating.

had balls as a player, didn't seem to have them as a manager, what is it with managers like him, Dyche, Moyes and the like, why not be braver, more attacking and entertaining rather than having the stigma of turgid football attached to you forever, look at the difference Kompany has made at Burnley. I think these managers however are a dying breed, younger one's like Howe showing the way. I remember in his last full season when he was under pressure he was persisting with a back 5, in effect, safety first, maybe they are all just content with reputations as managers that don't get relegated and can save teams thus always guaranteeing some kind of job when there's a sacking.

He's retired, not taking calls from citeh, Liverpool, West ham, Everton,
nor Leicester...

He has told City and Liverpool though he would be willing to become an advisor if Alex gets the managers role

Steve speaks very warmly of his Gills days Reg,  if it wasn't for them offering him a trial after other clubs have rejected him ,he would likely have been lost to the game as he was all set to start as an apprentice at his local dockyard. 

I actually saw him just after he joined the Gills in a reserve game on a midweek afternoon. Me and a mate had a day off school to go and see Damien Richardson make his return from a lengthy injury absence, but left talking about the stunning goal Steve scored, a volley from the edge of the box. He went on to be top scorer for the reserves with 18 goals, from centre half !  Always had a real eye for goal.

Of course when Gills signed Steve after that trial they sent a certain Peter Beardsley back home, oh what might have been 

Good to hear String,  i would have seen Mark play dozens of times in  the mids 70s and early 80s, a real stalwart for sure and pretty much a one club man.

For some reason me and my gang  found it amusing that his first name is in fact Colin

I didn’t know his name was Colin!

Bruce was great as a player at corners

But as a manager he was as shite at corners
as he was at the rest of the game.
