Went to world cup in France.
Stayed in Bordeaux Belguim v Mexico, Argentina v Croatia Also fan zone down by the river was brilliant and watched quite a few games on big screen with folk from all over the world. Loads of giveaways... Ground Coffee, hats, flags, etc Air France gave everybody on plane a bottle of champagne when they flew in.. Still got it, with a plastic Footix, who was mascot for tournament. Watched eng v Argentina in our gite ![]() |

Went France 98, horrendous experience due to all the trouble a few days before we arrived, Germany 06 was amazing, fantastic people, great stadiums, amazing fan zones and fans mixing all the venues i went too. South Africa was somewhere in between too much travelling and saw loads of poverty which was real eye opener and crazy brutal police.

Been to a few Mecca.
Would recommend trying in the UEFA ballot for 2024. Germany put on a decent show in 2006 so expect euro2024 to be good. The fan zones were well organised so even without a ticket can still enjoy the occasion. Won’t be a problem getting a beer or pork sausage in Germany. Down side is tickets are starting to get very expensive especially as more likely to get cat1 or cat2 in ballot. |

Id have loved to attended the Korea/Japan one, they went nuts for it, they were fantastic hosts and great football played
Barring the blatant fix with Italy in the knock outs which did sour it a bit sadly, if not for that it was the most enjoyable world cup for me personally Brazil deserved winners |

Germany will at least make it a proper summer world cup, theyre good hosts are the Germans, put on a good spread nd love their proper beer if thats your thing

I wasnt at Goodison but surely someone on here must have been https://www.fifa.com/fifaplus/en/watch/3wKfyGdAh3yD8c1PBPZ I bought a mini season ticket for the early matches at Goodison for £3.15s Went to the first match Bulgaria v Brazil. Although Brazil won, Pele was kicked off the park by the cynical Bulgarians and he was ruled out of the rest of the competition. No substitues then so he played on injured. Who knows what might have been had he not been injured. Unfortunately I wasn't well for the above game and gave my ticket to a relative. Watched the match on the telly. Probably one of the best games ever. Cheapest tickets for the Wembley final were 10s - 50p in new money. ![]() One of the main differences between now and then was the quality of the pitches. |

The pitches are to good nowadays
It’s amazing how many injuries you still get despite this Maybe the body isn’t tough enough and conditioned to the tough elements ? |

1966 opening match: England V Uruguay 0-0. Evening game, The Opening Ceremony I was too young to appreciate and simply wanted the match to start. It seemed to last for hours.
Quarter Final: England v Argentina 1-0, A Saturday afternoon in the sunshine, can still see Geoff Hurst's glancing header in my mind. Magical. For the final, the tv played up and we missed Germany's opening goal. I was overjoyed at England winning and and naturally thought this was the was going to continue throughout my lifetime... |
