I guess it will probably be 70s/80s and maybe a visit from Rangers or Celtic in a friendly perhaps (Not always but there seems to be a recurring theme with these pair)
Inside the stadium I'm particularly interested in, not in the streets or the train stations.
I'm not condoning football violence. I just want to know how bad it used to get back then, or maybe still is, I don't know!

It was at the only game I was ever evicted from, thanks to the most cowardly policeman I've ever witnessed. If memory serves it was a pre-season friendly against West Ham, where they (WH) had pre-planned an assault on 'The Shelf' (mid-to-late 70's). I was still a teenager at the time and witnessed the assault from opposite, in 'The Enclosure' - The Shelf split in two as violence erupted, but to be fair to the police, they were in quickly and soon had a crowd of around 20 West Ham supporters rounded up, as they paraded them around the perimeter of the ground towards the exit.
As they passed my own stand the 'geezers' all pushed forward, in agitation, leaving me, a skinny light-weight teenager, no choice but to be dragged forward with them. This is when several policeman jumped into the stands to usher us back a little, but out of all the people who could have been singled out for 'incitement' this particular policeman chose to pick me out of the crowd and proceeded to turf me out... what a w*nker! That wasn't all, I was left outside, on my own, with all these West Ham fans, but thankfully even they could see I was only a kid and let me walk away in peace; fair play to them for that one. Out of anyone he could have lifted out of the crowd this copper chose to pick on a defenceless kid; a coward of the highest order imo. |

I've been going to Selhurst on and off since the mid 70's and I can't recall ever seeing any aggro. I'm going shortly to the West Ham game and it will be a lively atmosphere no doubt but it's a million there will be any trouble.

I missed Newcastle v rangers semi in 1969

Hearts game was mainly rucks in
gallowgate end, ( that's right hand side on tv) with dozens of bottles, likely glass brown ale bottles, hurled back and forth for much of second half. Causualty dept in rvi, Newcastle main hospital, were still dealing with cases from match at 10am following morning!!! |

also went to watch liverpool awayat carlilse of all places when i think the world and his do were waitin for us after the match. eidies, scottish the bloody lot and the police all disappered total set up to attack liverpool fans had a man utd mate who made the mistake of going to watch utd v galatasary dont think he ever ot over it  |

Newcastle v West ham. Petrol bomb... Went right over my head  Carnage at the train station after the game ! West Ham v Man Utd . South Bank '75 . in fa cup many moons ago,they invaded/took the holgate an hr before kick off,then in the south east corner /chicken run trhey had to use the pitch covers as shields fore 90 mins there was that much stuff getting thrown in the 70,s riot police had to seperate home fans from each ot, her game,after game in hoigate end to stop fighting between home supporters ,lads from stockton/billingham fighting with lads from middlesbrough, the only time m endy arse really nipped was at stamford bridge in 88 play off game fighing in side terrace seats all game,outside pre game,then chelsea invaded pitch from shed and tried to get over the fence in boro end |

I never missed a home game for 8 years in the 80s .....and honestly never saw any violence home or away.
The scariest game was some fixture with Man City sometime around 84/5/6. The game finished 2-2. I reckon there were 4,000 home fans and 12,000 + away fans. They ran all over the pitch pre game climbed and were hoisted into the seats , I was surrounded by away fans in the home end. City got a pen scored by Kevin Bond to make it 2-2 in the last few minutes.....the only time I have ever been happy for the opposition to score. |

West Ham fans used to "take" the home end about an hour before kick off when all the home fans crew were still in the pubs..
.. I saw them do it at Molineux... they ran a load of kids off the terraces at about 2pm.. but it kicked off properly when the home fans arrived in force at about 2.50 |
