These 3 are right up there as well, only very slightly behind Day in the Life and George Harrison's Something, which is my personal favourite.

Lennon said whenever he went to restaraunts in the 70s the manager would have the house musicians play a Beatles song in his honour, and it will always be one Paul had written.

"I go to restaurants and the groups always play 'Yesterday.' I even signed a guy's violin in Spain after he played us 'Yesterday.' He couldn't understand that I didn't write the song. But I guess he couldn't have gone from table to table playing 'I Am the Walrus.'"

A little quiz to sort out the Beatles fans ... a Beatles song written by McCartney, sung by Lennon. Most unusual procedure. Macca only sang accompanying BVs on the chorus.

Beatles years - 'Eleanor Rigby', 'Hey Jude' would have to be on the list
Post Beatles - The underrated 'Take It Away' never seems to get a mention.

I was pleased to note George Harrison giving a reverrential little nod to 'Every Little Thing' in the recently broadcast 9 hours or thereabouts of 'The Beatles Get Back' 3 part documentary film.

I wouldn't have got that, never knew it. You learn something new .................
I like "I've Just seen a Face", "You won't see Me" and "I'm Looking through you" too. Don't hear them so much but all great, catchy songs.

Another great McCartney song that he gave away to the band Badfinger was "Come and Get It" He sang it for the first time in about 45 years when I saw him live in London a few years back. Great song.

the original post was slightly mischievous anyway Lou ...I just can't stand the cant...who seriously tries to get their name first on song writing credits years after the event and when the other bloke (your mate) is dead...
plus I still haven't forgiven him for his Christmas stuff...

Fair enough but I think to call him a 'Can't' is over the top and I expected better of you as one of the Forum's more reasonable posters.
Surely his Christmas song is a very catchy, very popular one like the many we hear year after year on the radio etc?

CMoon is the opposite to being a 'Square'. If you put a 'C' and a 'Moon' together it makes a Circle thus opposite to a Square.
That was his explanation for it.

Yes a good track too. 'Sally G' is a little known Wings song but once again a great catchy tune where he explains "What the Letter 'G' stood for" in the final verse.

Yes once again his voice on Monkberry Moon Delight is incredible. His vocal range really is something else.
Yet he can then do 'My Love' which is right up there with his greatest ever Beatles ballads.

according to the quotes and links on wikipedia only one of the Wings albums (Band on the Run) got very good reviews, venus and Mars got decent reviews and the other albums were critcally panned

In The Beatles: An Illustrated Record, Roy Carr and Tony Tyler called the album (Wild Life) "rushed, defensive, badly timed, and over-publicized" and wrote that it showed McCartney's songwriting "at an absolute nadir just when he needed a little respect".[17]
Red Rose Speedway received a mixed response from contemporary music critics,[48][49] many of whom dismissed its songs as mediocre.[15]
Wings at the Speed of Sound was released in late March 1976 to lukewarm critical reviews.
London Town received generally unfavourable reviews from music critics.[20][21]
Back to the Egg received predominantly negative reviews on release;[21] author Alan Clayson writes of the album receiving "a critical mauling as vicious as that for London Town".[70]

I still had my "Red Rose Speedway" frizbee, which conveniently came my way at concert end, up until a year or so ago. It fell victim to a quiet clear-out by SWMBO. Anyone else?

Tragic?! I'm afraid I couldn't be using that word about Paul McCartney. Pathetic maybe. The absolute guff he came out with after Linda died was sickening bearing in mind what he did thereafter. Then his massive ego got the better of him and he felt he was doing his next wife a favour. The way he marshalled all his press and media pals to abuse and mistreat her in a press and media hatchet job was nothing short of disgusting.

I love Paul but he spent 40 years after Ram and BotR knocking out material that, sadly, I consider utterly forgettable. 'Vanilla Sky' was nice enough but I can't think of any others I like
