When I were a lad Serie A was something to behold.
Great teams from Milan, Naples, Parma, Sampdoria. Roma and Lazio both won the Scudetto. All the best players went to the peninsular. Then the finances fell apart. And all that was left was the filthy old lady from turin. A real shame. Todays Serie A is nowhere near as good. sorry |

yes 80s and 90s were Serie A's golden era
Platini, Maradona, Van Basten-Rijkaard-Gullit, Gascoigne, Baggio, Zidane crowds were huge back then Bari bought David Platt  |

Platty was the biggest success for a british player in the peninsular since John Charles. Probably.
Rush was hopeless. Gascoigne never fit. Des Walker, reckoned by many in england to be one of the best center backs in the world, well he was just out of his depth. Even Lee Sharpe tried his luck.. actually come to think of it, Trevor Francis, Mark Hateley an Ray Wilkins did at least as well as Platty. |
