Weight of money is always on the odds on selection and for every back there is a lay, ie someone betting against them. Weight of money indicates nothing, it just confirms that City are odds on favourites, which the price already tells you.

Those latest odds are ridiculous given that Liverpool are the better team and there are still 20 games to go. IMO.

Liverpool wont catch City now. Dont forget Salah and Mane off in Jan

Not a fan of Liverpool myself, Lou. A few people reckon the gap between their price and City's is too big given the 3 point gap. One matchday from changing places at the top.

I keep a book on the outright as it develops and have quite a successful record over the years betting on the difference.

I'd say City are the better team, but they are closely enough matched that it is not silly to argue Liverpool are better.

The BIG gap in the odds I don't think is really a reflection on the difference in quality. If they meet in the CL Final I think you'd get 90 min odds like 5/4 City 15/8 Liverpool.

With the Premier Lg betting though other factors are making City so much shorter.

The African Nations sees Liverpool lose their 2 best forwards for a few games.

You'd also expect both clubs might typically lose 3 starters for a while just due to injuries. The drop off to the next guy up is much less with City. Liverpool have a good squad but there are 4 or 5 players that are just levels above the back up that would replace them. eg Origi is a good finisher but his all round skillset does not compare to Mane's.

Then you have the fixtures. City's have been tougher so far and will be easier in 2nd half of season. City's toughest remaining away game as per betting odds will be Arsenal. Liverpool are away to City and Chelsea.

That is a good analysis, tobermory, but my experience is that it does not pay to look too far ahead. If I have an edge, it comes from the market over-reaction to one matchday. Liverpool currently 5. There may well be a point in the season when City are 5.

The way the results have gone would make me have to revise prices to such an extent that I must have had them wrong before.

If it stays like this (2-2) I would go 10/11 City, 11/10 Liverpool.

I don't expect the PL ever to be decided on goal difference but Liverpool have greater momentum.

I'm on and although 9/4 has gone with the bookies, exchange still go 3.30/3.35 which I consider extraordinary value.

If Liverpool beat Man United tomorrow, I make them outright favourites, given their momentum.

Don't like the run of fixtures Liverpool have before/after the two CF semi legs. Away to Newc at 12.30 sat after a weds 1st leg. Everton and Spurs at home either side of the ties. City play on the Tues and at 5.30 on the sat (not very fair to Liverpool and I thought BT had agreed not to ask a CL team playing weds to play in that slot?).

City's last 3 games are over 2 weeks. Liverpool are going to have 5 games in the same period (incl the cup final). They would want to get the tie with Villarreal over after the first leg, ideally. But the number of games could catch up on them fatigue-wise.

I'd say there's a good chance that Newc match will be pushed back to 7.45 on the Sat. Criminal if they don't. They have done it before and Pool play Spurs at that time on a Sat after the Villarreal second leg.

Newcastle are safe, have nothing to play for now. Guaranteed 3 pts for Liverpool.

But they play City too, so evens out.

Pool seem to want all the gold this season which could be a negative by the end

Point wasn't that Newc game would be tough. Rather the turnaround and tougher fixtures either side of the CL SF compared to City. But I hadn't factored in City's away game at Wolves, that has to be rearranged too. Just think City already have a bigger squad and will get more chances to rest players. I hope Liverpool win it tho.
