Have bet EVENS over 129.5 at the start , now 42 goals after 18 matches averaging 2.34 per game , always thought early games can be a bit cagey and the goals will flow in the knock out games, any thoughts ?
Without looking at the stats which is probably key to the discussion I would say in the modern era group games are actually less cagey affairs than they were in terms of style of play at least in the last 20 years... and then in the knockout rounds can think of a few tournies where the entertainment value at least has declined but even then one game can absolutely blow the thing open.... there was ger 7-1 Bra in the 2014 wc and Arg 3-4 France in 2018 wc just as examples....would need to do the stats research for a true reflection I suppose but even then the relatively small sample size and single game anomalies make a true analysis difficult I'd have thought.

can you still do stats on football pre VAR as the game has changed since VAR was introduced maybe in 4/5 tournaments time but who knows what VAR system will be in place with hand balls penalties and offsides?
