Classic VAR

Half-@rsed attempt at drawing lines that appears to be incomplete and measuring to the wrong player anyway [

Willian Jose's goal
Firmino's goal
Son's pathetic acting
Now this.
Worst weekend for VAR so far
When will the "teething problems" be over

Is any league going to be brave enough to bin it ?

Does anybody know where the cameras are based in a ground?

I would have thought they’d be ‘hawk eye’ level so looking down on the players not across..

How can they not have cameras both sides of they are not up high!

Surely they knew that at any time their could be people in the way on a football pitch from either side

Can’t recall tennis saying a player was in the way..

wouldnt shock me if prem were close to binning it, not worth the hassle, ridicule  and farce.

Sadly, they'll do what FIFA want and stick with it through thin and thinner.

its not even worth discussing var anymore .. if football doesn't realise now what a mistake it has all been then the game is gone

VAR is rubbish, everybody knows it, it sounded like it would be the best thing since sliced bread before it came in, but WOW how bad is it. But the worst is, it ain't going away, ever.

So Var can spot a toe nail offside but cannot see a clear and obvious goal whereby the player is clearly onside, who was the VAR official surely he should be challenged over that appalling decision whereby all the country could see he was onside FFS

@ roache: Who was the VAR official surely he should be challenged over that appalling decision whereby all the country could see he was onside?

From match report: "Kevin Friend decided there was insufficient evidence to overturn the on-pitch decision, even though TV replays suggested otherwise."

I guess either it just wasn't clear and obvious enough for the VAR official OR, as he did, he drew his line down to the wrong player, a player who wasn't interfering with play and deemed him to be the offside one.

I've just seen Dermot Gallagher's response and he is defending the decision, which I've seen countless times before. They seldom go against their own.

Willian only offside the other week cos he never brushed his teeth, that's bad.
By:

When: 14 Apr 21 22:21
Its totally bizarre though as numerous times this season they spend 5 minutes attempting to find a toe nail offside so they can deem a goal was offside which by the amount of time taken is obviously never a clear and obvious mistake of not calling the offside in the 1st place then when a goal is clear and obviously on side they tell porkies saying there was not enough evidence to over rule the original offside decision, they cannot have it both ways

VAR is like something out of George Orwell's 1984 or Kafka.

Offside is not fixed in var on basis
of clear and obvious error.

It's supposed to be almost perfect.

With linesmen encouraged to allow
play to continue before raising flag
at end of movement if they suspect
an offside may have led to an advantage.

Clearly it cannot be judged at
an absolute level with current
number of cameras. As demonstrated
numerous times.

Even goal line tech was found wanting
last season. Adding moving players
and trying to calculate when a
pass was made means they need some
margin of error in offside calls
even when var is in play.

I'd love to witness a full season without the offside rule; it would solve most of the VAR issues, but how would modern managers cope? Would be a giggle if nothing else.

Often played without offside as
kids,... Lucky to find a ref.

Having a player "mark" the goalie
soon became an advantage, especially
as goalie was usually in goal as
he was sh1te at football.

I do think that offside is important
to game, but it's fairly easy
to build some tolerance into
the rule.
By:

You can't be offside from a throw in

Yet players consistently fail to take
advantage of this freedom.

Some teams, with long throw experts do..
and its frowned upon in some circles.

No offside from goal kicks, and
some goalies like Pickford can
punt it nearly into opposition
box, but again, hardly used.

Var is trying to get more ridiculous

I'm waiting for the HT goal chalk off, where its chalked off at the break after the ref is "consulted" about something in his dressing room, SKY will make a big deal of it and the press will jump all over it as they do

Reality is its nothing more than an artificial controversy maker, no fecker worth his mind would even bother debating this s*it down the pub

IF Wenger gets his way with offsides then we will be going from disallowing goals because a toe was offside to allowing goals because a toe, backside, flowing locks was onside, you just know that FIFA will fcuk it up the other way as they have asked IFAB to ask Wenger to have a look at the current offside law, why don't they just use some common sense and build in a margin of error like they do in cricket as if Wenger gets his way good luck to any defenders trying to catch players offside
By:
DirkDiggler
When: 16 Apr 21 17:46
And then what's the margin for error? How are they going to decide what's within the margin of error or outside it?

It will be the same innacurate made-up lines nonsense we have now...

Do away with it altogether, because we're already talking about changing the rules of the game to make VAR work better, this is absolute insanity...

Football is way to subjective to ever have a system like VAR work satisfactorily, with GLT the ball crossed the line or it didn't, with Tennis ditto, with Cricket the ball is hitting the stumps or it isn't.
