Very very hard with so many great players but puch comes to shove I'd go this:

SCHMEICHEL

NEVILLE
PALLISTER
STAAM
IRWIN

KANCHELSKIS
KEANE
SCHOLES
RONALDO

VAN NISTELROOY
CANTONA

It means there's no Evra, Rio, Bruce, Vidic at the back.  I'd just prefer Kanchelskis to Beckham myself.  Ince just misses out and because I wanted Kanchelskis I've put Ronaldo in Giggs' place.  Up front Hughes doesn't quite make it it as don't  Solskjaer and Rooney.  Of the current team not one gets close even I'm afraid.

Like I said so many great players and only eleven positions but that's my team.

Greats? Poss Schmeical and prob Ronaldo but any decent attack that couldn't regularly turn slow as a boat Pally and Bambi on ice Steam into flustering wrecks would need to give itself a good talking to. Keane wouldn't last 5 mins today and was lucky to have any sort of career on a sporting pitch and wouldn't have had playing for any other team at the time.

someone tried to tell me last month that rooney was englands best ever centre forward
rude not to point out to him that he,d scored one goal at a world cup finals and we lost the game 2 1,

Rooney's peak was very early, at Everton and first few seasons at Utd

remember euro 2004?

owen in france better world cup than rooney,s ever had,
steadily downhill after 2004 it was a high point not a starting point bit like owen himself

rooney scored 4 goals in the group stage of euro 2004 and then got injured

in my lifetime i've never seen an english player play better than rooney did during that era

Giggs and Cantona the two most over rated players in PL history

would take Ronaldo and Rooney over those two any day

I thought Rooney was great to watch alongside ronaldo

Really worked well together.

Rooney scored a ton of goals season after Ronaldo went too.

That Rooney would be far better than r v n who probably
is a bit of a luxury in today's game.

Giggs over kanchelskis too for me

Ronaldo is the best I ever saw at United and look want he went on to do it's just incredible.

I never quite overly fancied Giggs, thought he was always a bit overhyped as 'The New George Best'.  I remember him being booed off at OT.  Don't get me wrong a good player and look what he went on to win but for me I'd just rather have Kanchelskis playing rather than him.

Cantona was fabulous though so we'll have to disagree there.

cantona wasn't even being picked for France for goodness sake

i get that he was an interesting character, and scored crucual goals at a crucial time in utd's history, but objectively he was not a great player

cantona is a "cult hero" type player

Van der Sar was better than Schmeichel imo.

Also think Carrick was as underrated as Scholes was overrated and I'd have him in his place.

And no Rio is, well, odd.

To each his own of course but I think 90% would say Schmeichel is the best keeper they've ever seen.  VDS was good but Schmeichel in a different league.

Have to disagree about Scholes and Carrick too, a mismatch IMO.

rommel

I do think so yes.  He was a United great, had a certain something about him and as hard as nails.  We could argue all day but for me Cantona one of United's very best.  As was Scholes.

If you're not picking Beckham Lou you cant really go with Neville at right back, They played well together on the right, so if no Becks should be no Nev too, so switch the naturally right footed Denis Irwin to right back and Evra gets in at left back. Rio's got to be ahead of Pally. Sparky gets the call up top for me.
I would actually concur with the Mighty Whites team bar the front 2.

That was MY OPINION though.  I'd rather Neville with kanchelskis in front of him and Rio's NOT 'Got to be ahead of Pally' that's just your opinion.  I would rather Pallister.

Hope that's ok with you!

All these Cantona/van Nistelrooy/Rooney/Ronaldo arguments could easily be solved by asking yourselves whether any two of them combined could have the same sort of understanding and effectiveness as Dwight Yorke and Andy Cole.

After you'd decided that of course they wouldn't, you can then proceed with the other nine positions.

Rooney, Trevez, CR7.  Never felt more terrified at facing an attack.  Peak Rooney was a great sight

It's all about opinions though.  Yes Cole got a lot of goals but he missed a shed load too.  I reckon if you or I were United's CF with all of those great players around us we'd have scored loads too.  Yorke the better of the two but for me he doesn't come near to Van Nistelroy who's stats were unbelievable and of course the great Cantona.

I'd love to be able to pick Hughes, Solskjaer, Rooney and Tevez too but they all just miss out for the two I've gone with.

By:
LOU MACARIS TARTAN B
When: 30 Jan 21 10:06
For me Robson not as good as Keane.  Always thought he was that bit over rated.  Obviously a good player but not that good and I'm a United fan.  I thought Ince was good as well.
By:

Ronaldo and Cantona wasted if Van Nistelrooy plays.

A pure goalhanger that required all the other attackers to be play for him.

Don't think that's an opinion either, it was proven as we saw the first couple of years of Ronaldo and Rooney wasted as their job was to set up chances for a much less talented player.

I think jed makes a good point about combos, but surely the Ronaldo-Tevez-Rooney would be the one to pick. That was really good.

(Why does everyone do 4-4-2 for these teams when no-one's played that way for years?)

ferguson started dropping him and didnt seem in a rish to sign him permnanently

maybe the language thing was a problem
By:
Giuseppe
When: 30 Jan 21 15:24
they should have made him a permanent signing after the first season
