replaced by ITV as their main commentator with Sam Matterface for England games and anything else
terrible decision, SM must have a good agent, Tyldesley's voice is made for commentary, Matterface sounds extremely dull when speaking and doesn't hit the high notes in the same way when a dramatic goal is scored. Sounds like he's reading a book when commentating, dull personality as well.

Then it's a bit like the motson v Davies debates back in the day Tyldesley obviously thought he could do a job at BBC back in the day, Before returning to itv when those two blocked his progress. There are plenty of opportunities for a decent commentator these days... His job application has no doubt been noted. I'm not sure I would prefer matteface, but Tyldesley is too man yoo for me. |

he's 65, it's ageism, keeping on for highlights packages.
basically it's England games, qualies, friendlies, tournament, few games but a big gig when broadcasting to possible 20 mil+ during the KO's. Think ITV still do CL highlights as well. |

One of the best , if not the best on UK TV in the 21st century..... but let's not let ability get in the way of the lunatics being allowed to run this asylum.

we should have more ethnic and girl commentators, to help promote the game to a ever increasing audience, maybe even throw in a bit of transgender, things we've been missing over the years. cheers.

Bad move by ITV, Smatterface is a lucky guy, he's now landed a job he's not good enough for following on from landing the job with Natalie Sawyer, which has now admittedly ended.

you can't buy his sort of experience. he's the kind of bloke that you don't fire him, he decides when it's time up
not saying matterface isnt' good at comms because he is but it's a tiny bit disrespectful to somebody who has no intention of retiring any time soon we should actually try and be promoting more older people and different people having the top jobs, not always going to a young white guy. |

The commentators of today are completely overrated ... give me David Coleman; Brian Moore; Hugh Johns and others of yester year ... nowadays they usually try to out shout each other or gives us their knowledge of bland info without thinking we don't want it ... as Ritchie used to say if the picture tells the story then say nowt

Entirely disagree.Tyldesley past his sell by,spouting useless stats constantly,not quite as bad as J Pierce,but bad enough to warrant replacing.
Motson,Tyldesley,Pierce,all became incredibly boring,not moved on with their style.Listen to Steve Wilson,much sharper,not the best but better than the three mentioned.Styles have to change,the game has changed,but some mikesmiths can't,or wont change their style,believing they still"have it",but unfortunately for them,they don't. The audience is younger now,you have to move with the times. Example horse racing,new breed of mikesmiths are completely able to step into the shoes of of the old school. |

Prefer Clive Tyldesley to Martin Tyler fawning over players like an adolescent girl. I'm always expecting Tyler to tell us he knows their birthdays.
