I actually enjoyed him as a player, especially partnership with Shearer. More exciting than the clone aseptic "his first touch let him down" krap we see today.

As a pundit, he retains my attention far more than the Jim Beglins and Alan Smiths of this world, much due to varying the pitch of his voice as distinct from the humdrum monotone semi comatose stating the bleedin' obvious sycophantic drivel spouted by most of the remainder.

Errm, he won the Premier League with Blackburn and was also the top scorer in the league a few years later.
