Lots of data available on matches all around the world, but does anyone know what the definition of an attack is and when does that attack become worthy of the status of dangerous?
I often wonder that mesen on the 365 site. I would imagine it's when the ball is in the last third or quarter but have absolutely no idea if that's true or not.

As much as anything else, it provides a means of comparing one match to another. I suspect that the graphics and data displayed are largely automated, making use of GPS type technology within sensors on players shirts.

An attack is basically when the named team crosses the half way line. A ''dangerous attack'' is when Money Tree has posted on here laying the named team.
It isn't that complicated. An attack is basically when the named team crosses the half way line. A ''dangerous attack'' is when Money Tree has posted on here laying the named team.

It depends on the spotter at the match working for the data feed company and there is no consistency. Sometimes you'll see a ball passed back to the keeper by a defender inside his own half as a DA, sometimes a harmless flick-on from a striker to the keeper as a DA and SoT, sometimes a misplaced cross or through ball that goes wide as a DA or if the keeper catches it a DA and SoT. If the match is streamed you will see it for yourself.

I work as a football data scout. The fact is we are taught that the last person to kick the ball is deemed to have possession so if a goalkeeper clears a ball then it goes through to the opposition goalkeeper then the process would be Safe-Attack-Dangerous Attack even though there is no perceived danger you still must report where the ball is.

Yes it's more to do with where the ball is on the pitch than how dangerous it is or if it is even a genuine attack. One of the feed companies used to have 'safe possession' as an option. Haven't see that in a long time. They need to give the spotters more options. You often see teams running the clock down at the corner flag called a dangerous attack when they are not even trying to score. Then they'll get a corner or free-kick and do the same thing and it looks like they are all over the opposition.

I'm still working as a football data scout and the process still remains as described above. Having covered nearly 200 games i can understand the process for it. for example an in play bet will be matched pretty much straight away if the play is "safe" a goal kick or something similar whereas if the ball is in a dangerous position the bet takes a few seconds to get matched. Having seen some odd own goals i can see why that would be

Yes there are and being privy to the lineups before anyone else (Especially at lower levels u23 for example) you could land a few touches if you were that way inclined.......

Do you think that there is consistency in the data reporting between data scouts? i.e. if two experienced data scouts were to independently report the same match, would the data reported be highly similair

On the whole i would say yes. At Premiership and Championship level we are paired up. I would say that me and my colleagues reports were very similar. Sometimes it is subjective for example there was a cross in which the keeper had to make a save. One of us called it a shot on target the other just reported it as Away Danger - Home safe
