Liverpool out if they lose.

I think there is more of a chance of this than pundits giving credit for.

Have to agree Liverpool’s away form in qualifiers in this comp is poor and the opposition have lost only once in last 20 so it’s conceivable
Report lurka December 10, 2019 8:43 AM GMT
Napoli are in turmoil, haven't won in 8, Ancelotti on the verge of the sack and the players revolting against the President after he fined them last month. They still put in a great performance against Liverpool at Anfield during that run but not beyond the realms of possibility that they get beaten tonight in the circumstances. A draw will do for them. Still more chance of Salzburg winning than Genk tho.
Report JC1326 December 10, 2019 10:53 AM GMT
Nah. Salzburg have done very well but I can't see them outscoring Liverpool. Besides, anybody looking at anything other than goals tonight needs their head read.
Report darren_discombobulates_sports December 10, 2019 11:16 AM GMT
BTTS to score is 1.33, haven't seen this market that low in any match for a long time, it's a banker though, Liverpool to win/btts the best bet as usual.
Report gibmark December 10, 2019 12:04 PM GMT
always dangerous betting on a team when they dont have to win
Report JC1326 December 10, 2019 1:04 PM GMT
They kind of do, Gibmark. Do you think Liverpool want to play level with a very dangerous Salzburg going in to the last fifteen minutes?
Report JC1326 December 10, 2019 1:05 PM GMT
want to *be* level
Report gibmark December 10, 2019 2:02 PM GMT
yes ,but with only a draw needed to qualify , so long as they dont concede they are through , if drawing with 15 min to go ,they wont be taking any chances
Report gibmark December 10, 2019 2:16 PM GMT
having said that , if they needed to win , i m sure they would

I can't get my head round this, even after looking at BBC and UEFA sites.  Assuming Napoli win, are Liverpool through even if they lose by one goal?
Report morpteh mackem December 10, 2019 3:50 PM GMT
ian,  there's a little provisio on table on bbc-  'There is one scenario where Liverpool will still qualify if they lose, but they need to score four away goals or more and only lose by one goal (eg a 5-4 defeat)
Report gibmark December 10, 2019 3:50 PM GMT
if Napoli win they will be on 12pts .
Liveppol lose , they willbe on 10pts as RB Salzburg will be , atm GD is Lpool +3 , RB Salz +5 , = Lpool will not go through
Report morpteh mackem December 10, 2019 3:55 PM GMT
does hth not come before gd ? hence 5-4 defeat would be enough as would have beaten rbs on away goals ( on hth ) .

I think morpteh mackem is right.  Looks like head to head doesn't take goal difference into account as first priority.
Report Macster2 December 10, 2019 4:03 PM GMT
Simply put if Liverpool lose by anything other than a single goal scoreline higher than 4-3, so 5-4, 6-5 etc they will be out unless Napoli fail to win
Report n88uk December 10, 2019 4:03 PM GMT
H2H works like as if were a 2 legged tie as long as it's 2 teams tied. So Liverpool won 4-3 at home if Salzburg win by any better scoreline than that they will be above Liverpool, and of course that's the majority of wins.
Report morpteh mackem December 10, 2019 4:09 PM GMT
anyhoo, i fancy goals and lots of them !!
Report tobermory December 10, 2019 4:11 PM GMT
Erling Haaland has 28 goals in 21 games.

And apparently a €20M release clause that activates in January.

If Salzburg go out maybe he leaves next month.
Report ian merseyside December 10, 2019 4:12 PM GMT
I think I'll swerve this one. I reckon Ajax Valencia match has more potential for goals.
Report morpteh mackem December 10, 2019 4:16 PM GMT

If Napoli win OR DRAW a 1-0, 2-1, 3-2 defeats from Liverpool will see them out.

Report duffy December 10, 2019 5:01 PM GMT
Yes.

I actually want Salzburg to win 4-3 as that will ALSO see them outDevil
Report lurka December 10, 2019 5:05 PM GMT
Sorry, I am worng there. If Napoli draw then Salzburg will have to win by 2.
Report lurka December 10, 2019 5:10 PM GMT
Jesús no I wasn't wrong, they will go out on goal difference in matches between the top 3 if they lose by one and Napoli draw.

Has any club achieved that embarrassing feat? Champions league winner and European league season afterwards...

Its a toss up who scores 1st in this game as that 1st half could easily have been 2-2 its we attack you attack but Saleh has wasted an absolute guilt edged chance and it could come back to haunt them.

Another good and comfortable performance from Liverpool against a young and inspiring Salzburg with plenty of potential. In my opinion, Salzburg would not disgrace themselves in the Premier Leagues, certainly holding their own against teams outside of the top four.
