They wouldn't qualify for the CL if they finished 5th, regardless of what Liverpool or Spurs do in the CL.
By:
So it is misery either way.

Don't give a f uck about top 4, want to smash City tonight, everybody in the ground will be roaring United to do as much damage as possible to City. The title is nowt to do with United.
In the grand scheme of things we'd prefer City to win the title rather than Liverpool but we want to beat City more than that. Its a derby ffs?? |
By:
disappointed in you Pete. lol
By:
we'll listen for that roar then

Can anyone clarify the present situation? Under the old rules, the team that wins the champion league automaticaly qualifies the following year. Therefore, if Liverpool or Spurs wind then the 5th. club would qualify. Does anyone know if this is still the case?
By:
Top four only qualify. If Liverpool or Spurs win CL and either are in 5th then we get five in CL (top 4 plus them)
By:
sj, the problem is that we hate City almost as much as we hate Liverpool. Its nowt to do with top 4.
By:
Yep, as Pete says, the Prem could only get to 5 CL places if a team outside the top four wins the CL.
By:
fair do's pete, cant beat a bit of hate in football
By:
The thing is here i could not give a sh1te who wins the title tonight we should play the game show some pride , organization and 100 per cent commitment , let the oil rig and the 29 year mob do what they want
By:
5 CL places max. The team in 4th will miss out on CL if Liverpool/Spurs win the CL and Arsenal/Chelsea finish 5th or 6th and win the EL
By:
translates as we are shoite and can't compete with those two
By:
By:
Sorry you are right. 4th only misses out if both euro cup winners finish outside top 4, so spurs would have to win the CL and finish 5th or 6th, with Chelsea/Arsenal doing likewise and winning the EL.
By:
There should only be one team in the CL (European Cup), the winners. Just like the old days, 16 compete. It's nothing more than a gimmick now
with the fans, (deservedly) getting ripped off. |

Thank you for the clarification. Then there is no doubt that United will be fired up for this. They're not as good as City but, tbf, United's forte has always been to try and harry the skill out of the game, nick a goal and play safe. A generalisation but never see PlanB when United play a good team anyway. Route1 could work tonight. 6/1 at home? Surely one of the bets of the season. |
By:
If this match was being played when it should have been played on March 16th, we wouldn't be having this conversation, so United should be as up for it as they would then

Whatever they tell you they will be supporting United tonight. Can't ever imagine a derby where a City or United supporter won't want to win, whatever the circumstances!
By:
Amazing people need to ask the question who do united fans won’t to win tonight.
By:
looks a huge price on paper but the space they leave between lines will surely be exploited by city so I fear for them
By:
Regarding who they would rather win the title and I have spent my entire life in Manchester I would guess A 1/3rd would won’t Liverpool a 3rd would won’t city and a 3rd wouldn’t give a sh.t
By:
For me, I desperately want United to win tonight, to try and get top 4.
If that means Liverpool go on to win the league, so be it. If they win it they will deserve it. Rivalry is ok but not to the detriment of your own club. Disappointed if others think otherwise. |
By:
...if united finish outside top 4 then Europa league would be a good run out for the kids...while the senior players can focus on winning the league
