Premier League?
Nottingham Forest came 3rd in the Second Division in 1976-77, 5 points off the winners.

The next season they won the First Division Championship.

An amazing achievement which is completely impossible now. It sums up how much the game has changed (for the worse imho) since £ took over.

It's no secret that the Clough genius has skipped a generation but Pep had to rub it in our faces by putting 9 past Nigel.
That was the height of bad manners Senor it wouldn't have hurt to stop at 4 or 5.

The thinking behind the clough/taylor relationship was that PT would spot which player to sign. While BC would find out how to turn that player into a top performer.
Having seen that 'Believe in Miracles' documentary the forest players seem to admit they were nothing special. Well organised with john robertson regarded as far and away their best forward player.
Jose is a big fan of BC, unsurprisingly. But these days the power of the manager is pretty much on the decline.
What determines success on the field is more and more down to the directors of football and the chief execs.
Guys like david dein when he was at arsenal, jw henry at liv, levy, roman, sheikh mansour, Florentino Perez at Madrid, Joan Laporta at barca.
You have to a vision for the club and run it from the top down with every department geared to success.
And that takes lots of money
