I've only just started looking into this and am totally confused.  It seems to be a combination of a tournament in its own right and is also the qualifying process for the 2020 Euros.  I regard myself as reasonably intelligent but it seems ridiculously complicated. My first thought was that we (England) could quite easily finish bottom of our group behind Spain and Croatia and therefore be out of the 2020 Euros, but it's not that straightforward. Can anyone put this into simple terms??!!!

This doesn't replace the qualifying for the Euros, it's an additional route. Euro qualifying in the usual format will take place next year. All it means is that 4 nations will already have secured qualification before that.

So the group winners within the 4 Leagues will go into a play off next June (semi finals and final). If England finish bottom of the group they'll just go into the qualifying tournament for the Euros.

What it also means is that a League D nation (Azerbaijan, Belarus, Malta etc) is guaranteed a spot at the Euros.

''Guaranteed'' is a dangerous word to use with nations like Scotland about

Remember waking up every night in a cold sweat when it looked like England was headed for the final. Glad to see they are back to their true level baiting the sweaties.

Pretty sure I understand the format.

I think the teams failing to qualify go into next seasons Europa League Qualification stage.

theres 4 divisions , each division has groups , each team plays each other home and away , top country of top league go into semi finals , then final , if you finish bottom of group in div 1 , you get relegated to div 2 , winners of div 2 , 3 and 4 get promoted to next div , bottom gets relegated

Well, according to the Nations League, our true level appears to be in a group with Spain and the World Cup finalists, so...

I'm only joking about Scotland. Every international thread has to have a mandatory joke about 'em. Passions are always high during the tournaments. I don't think any of us care about the rest of it Laugh
