If he could actually put away the sitters that fall to him and put in half decent crosses from wide positions, he would be world class.
By:
would put Pickford way ahead of sterling, Sterling flashy with no end product.
By:
Raheem Sterling couldn't score in a brothel most over rated player iv ever seen.
By:
Vardy and Rashford are just as pacey if not more so and the difference is they can finish.
He should be dropped for one of them. |
By:
Sterling creates a lot of space and is not selfish.
Is a woeful finisher though. |
By:
sterling is just a brilliant wild card
the ball he took out the air for his chance was top notch them he fluffed the chance some lads in the pub were slagging him off - kn5bheads he will win us the world cup |
By:
the lad's got no footballing brain - he's road runner
By:
looks like his confidence is lacking, badly needs a goal to give it a boost imo.
By:
stats doing him no favours
Duels won 2 Duels lost 10 Attempted dribbles 4 Successful dribbles 1 still reckon he'll score in the final |
By:
clearly a very important player for england and maybe he will pop up with a goal when it really matters
By:
useless
a forward that does all these great things but never scores what the fookin point ? he gets so many chances and so much space because opponents know how bad he is |
By:
I also reckon he'll score the winner in the final to bring it home..... And it'll probably be one of the all time great WC goals
By:
I have wanted him to do well for ages.
But to say a player is more of a threat without the ball than with it isnt what you want of a forward. Numerous times Kane is dropping back to feed Sterling though. He undoubtedly has pace and industry, but he has no finish. When he has the ball after three touches the likelyhood of anything coming from it drastically reduces because for whatever reason hes got no shot in his legs. That gun tattoo on his leg is the biggest irony of em all. Id have him on the bench and bring him on as and attacking midfielder with strict instructions to pass somebody through within 3-4 touches then move, cos if he still has it in the box he becomes impotant. |
By:
Agree with original post, he's incredibly important to the way England play - great runs all match long, and although his finishing could improve, he constantly gives England possession in great areas of the pitch - given how important set pieces are to this England team, he is integral to the way we play. We would be far poorer with Vardy or Rashford involved instead

By:
Played brilliantly again yesterday. Just wrong colour skin for some newspapers.

By:
Well?
I heard one pundit comment, that he gets the ball forward and disrupts defences. Or words to that affect. That'll do for me. And if he's valued so highly at City, he can't be so bad. Can he? |

Duels won 2 Duels lost 10 Attempted dribbles 4 Successful dribbles 1 There is no stat for duels, that's aerial duels, which he wasn't apart of any. He was dispossessed twice. Misplaced 5 passes. I don't rate him though, prefer Rashford or Vardy. He'll cost England eventually. |
By:
Not sure about him " costing " England but I HAVE to admit I would prefer Rashford.
By:
the kid has done well.....could do better at the business end.....opponents have to make allowances for him which disrupts their flow......shame there is not a bit more about him in stature but he carries a threat...….vardy should not play another minute unless its in the 3rd and 4th play off......makes no impact at international level......
By:
Disrupts disrupts, how bad can THAT be?
By:
He can run about all day and get praise for it, will he take a chance when it really matters? when there's no time left for another?
Clean through on goal 88th minute, 1-1 or 1-0 down, is he gonna score? Because when he has time to think about it he crumbles, you can see the panic and indecision. That's my fear and has been since the tournament started. |

Running against opponents and getting a positive result each time for his team is acceptable. But wasting them more often than being positive (I don't mean scoring) is a negative return for his team ie a liability. A player who promises a lot but seldom delivers is not a positive member of the team, and Sterling is such player. I do not care what he does for Man City - I'm not a supporter - but I sure do for England as I'm one.
By:
he obviously does do something 'cause he's there but a million people also cannot be wrong- he'll retire as the most disliked person to ever get 100 caps for england
By:
road runner is right , forward that cant finish , is next to useless , would like to know the stat , how many times he gives the ball away
By:
Vardy and Rashford are being criminally underused
By:
calling him a road runner just shows a level of football ignorance that is unfortunately too prevalent on this thread
his intelligent runs stretch defenders and create spaces for others to play his pace frightens defenders and he is incredibly strong for a little guy |
By:
with the ball he is a road runner. meep meep. goes down blind alleys. can't beat defenders. there is no stat or highlight that makes him look good
By:
but he's there
By:
that's the best thing you can say for him, he's there. he shows up.
By:
95% of england fans would give him back given the choice
By:
some stats are worthless e.g ball possession when you are passing sideways and backwards
he certainly can beat a player sometimes it doesnt come off for him but least he tries to be positive thought he was excellent yesterday and the side would have much less attacking threat if he wasnt there |
By:
if he played in a poor team you'd really see how bad he is
he's fortunate that he plays in such good teams where his glaring errors don't matter so much see sturridge when he went to west brom, or walcot at everton. "he certainly can beat a player" sweden game: attempted dribbles 4 succesful dribbles 1 I won't go back over his world cup stats to further prove the point that he certainly cannot beat a player with anything but pace and that is why he is the road runner |
By:
MEEP MEEP!
By:
what a ridiculous point - if he played in a bad team nonsense
![]() if harry Kane played for west brom might i suggest he would struggle as wouldnt get the decent service he thrives on |
By:
beating a player is what douglas costa did vs belgium
in a race sterling can beat most players to a ball but that does not make him a good footballer, it makes him a good sprinter. indoor 50 metre sprint is what he shoudl do genetically weak and a poor player |
By:
none of the other players like him either they all tolerate him . they hide his creams
By:
one thing he isnt is weak
you obviously havent seen much of him when suarez left liverpool he filled in as center forward for a spell and held his own physically against six foot plus centre halfs |
By:
The only thing he's got going for him, is that he's named after our currency. Although he's not worth the dosh he earns.
Can't really believe he still earns a place in the team. Think that he is holding better players back. |
