The last few weeks have got me pondering on why Arsenal under Wenger were becoming a health crisis for the club!

He said yesterday

"the fans didn't show me the unity I wanted which was bad for our image worldwide"

This one comment exemplifies the exact reason why fans wanted him gone, the sheer arrogance to under perform for over a decade, and the in true Wenger fashion, then feed the media room with his usual PR Spin bollox by turning the attention/blame on the fans!

If he was fulfilling the clubs potential he'd never have been in this position, he is lucky not have been sacked 5/6/7 times over in the last few years, lucky to be on 10 million a year, the highest paid manager in World football bar nobody, lucky to have a owner who doesn't care about the league title or winning the CL.

How he has the temerity to even allude to the fans being part of his downfall makes me even more pleased he's no going/was really sacked and even less likely to want to clap him off if I can a ticket for Burnley.

Can't wait to see the back of him tbh. Not in a nasty way, but in a very relieved way. Father time caught him up a decade ago.

spot on mesmerised

the only people that defend him apart from the few insane cult members left are generally from other clubs who think we re so fortunate to win fa cups

all very well of course but for ticket prices higher than anyone else in the world (not just england or europe)

so you cant have it both ways

plus he earns more than double managers like allegri who have won truckloads of meaningful trophies in recent years

around 80-90% of the clubs fans wanted him gone , so fans from other clubs should realise that this wouldnt be without good reason , i certainly wouldnt question such an overwhelming majority at their club , i would greatly respect it

I agree, the worldwide image of Arsenal was a Big Club going nowhere, with a manager refusing to strengthen in areas that needed strengthening because he didn’t want to pay over the odds - just look at the difference a quality defender - Virgil, has made to Liverpool.

The next Manager must surely be allowed to spend/invest in some quality defensive players.

As soon as the fans started boycotting his exit was done and dusted.

I am looking forward to the new manager doing a much better job than wenger.
After that, fat sam can be drafted in at christmas to save them from the drop.
Report DrRob • April 23, 2018 8:00 PM BST
Ha ha!  “Fat Sam” would be an appropriate appointment, but Enrique (the manager not the singer) would probably do a better job!

(1)He became tight with the clubs money, as if it was his own.He refused to spend money.

(2)I would like to see Rafa Benitez installed as manager.

I always assumed he was on a “cut”of the profits - hence the lack of investment. Benitez would be a good call, at least he would spend a few quid and strengthen in the right places, though I suspect his buyout clause will deter the Arsenal hierarchy.

I heard Paul Merson say the stadium should be renamed "the Arsene Wenger stadium"

took 10 years to get rid of him and now some people want his name permanently hovering above 60,000 goonersCry
Report jon b • April 25, 2018 1:57 PM BST
If he wants to sponsor the club and have his name in the stadium title   why not, at least we could get some of the money back we,ve def overpaid him in recent years Whoops
Report mesmerised • April 25, 2018 2:49 PM BST
I would not object to a stand in his name. But then I would say George Graham and Herbert Chapman would deserve one.

Three FA Cups in the last four years.  Should have won ten FA Cups in the last decade obviously.
Report ghostlygunner • April 26, 2018 7:31 AM BST
the fa cup is still great to win but sadly its not what it was

most of the teams in it tryo to get knocked out by playing weakened in order to concentrate on staying up or going up

and even the top sides tend to only take it seriously in the later stages

wigan and portsmouth have won it in the last 10 years

also   its 3 fa cups and only 3 fa cups in 14 years

so no european trophies , no league titles in that time

do you really think that at any of the big spanish clubs for example , the manager would survive with no domestic title or any european pot for that length of time

like it or not , and we are in a right fkn mess at the moment now , but arsenal are the biggest club in the capital of our country , who charge the highest ticket prices in the WORLD let alone europe

and have paid this man almost 10 million per year for the last 10-12 years in which he has underperformed

so please look at the bigger picture here , if 80-90% of arsenal fans wanted him out , fans of other clubs should respect that

Old Big ‘Ead Brian Clough said “ If a chairman sacks the manager he initially appointed, he should go as well”. - I agree with him
Report duncan idaho • April 30, 2018 3:38 PM BST
yes, chairman who hired Ranieri at Leicester defo should have got the bullet when Ranieri was sacked, with nothing else to be taken into consideration
