They're out of the cups so no distractions; both their strikers (Hylton and Collins) hit 20 league goals last season (Collins at Crawley) and both are on course to do it again this season; they've already played most of top teams away and a nice run of games coming up.

If they keep their strikers fit and show a bit more concentration on the road then, yes, Luton will win League 2.

between them and notts co but lincoln could be the dark horses... remember the run portsmouth went on last season??
Report W11 January 17, 2018 3:25 PM GMT
Thanks for your replies, last season I had £1200 on Doncaster at 9/1 do you remember they were 9 points clear and went to 1/25 at one stage and once they got promoted blew up completely, and like a mug I did not lay off any as I thought they were home and hosed, but I did back Portsmouth late on just in case.

This season I have had £1000 E/W Luton mainly at 7/1 also at 9/2 and 4/1 but I am hoping lightening does not strike twice and I do not have the same fate as last season.

I think the main dangers are Notts County they seem to never give up, so I might have a saver at 7/1 and also back them to finish in the top 3 at 4/6 to save my stake.

Opinions on what you would do in my shoes?

Cheers

i had plymouth last year antepost and did not lay off arghhhh cant remember the price but it was a decent one.

the thing with luton is that they come up with some very strange results. They go on a run and muller teams then go and lose to some crappy teams like chesterfield and Port vale. Thats 2 bad results in threse games. There is definatley unreliability there and with 19 games to go i would definatley be making sure you end up with a profit from your excellent bets.

If you look at their fixtures remaining they still have 10 games to play against the top 12. Their home form is pretty strong and with 10 left they should get over the line if they keep their overall seasons form

Good luck with your bets.

I have ante post bets on Accrington and Notts Co so i am hoping one of them will catch Luton!!!
Report hippie January 17, 2018 6:49 PM GMT
Luton aren't unreliable. They've been performing at this high level for a full calendar year.

They're priced as home bankers against Morecambe this weekend so unless you can make a case why they won't take maximum points sit tight. Away to Coventry on 17 February ( in 7 games time) looks the only game on the horizon to raise any concerns.

Port Vale aren't crappy, they've been on the up and up since Neil Aspin took over and Tom Pope has found a new lease of life. Chesterfield was a disappointing result but I've put that down to after the Lord Mayor's show following the cup game at Newcastle. They got hit with a one-two conceding early (against a team fighting for their league existence) then gave away a penalty 5 minutes later. Their away form is still only bettered by Swindon.

Notts County are looking like their only challenger but bear in mind they don't meet until the last game of the season (May 5) so that could well be a dead rubber by then.

You've got a good bet with plenty of wiggle room. Personally, no way would I consider laying off at the moment. I'd be fully expecting them to take the 3 points this weekend and the same again away to Grimsby next week then I'd re-assess my position after the home game against Wycombe on 30 January.

The Dragon, hippie,

Your replies were first class thank you, today I backed Notts County at 7/1 and Notts County to finish in the top 3 at 4/6 to cover my win bet on Notts County so if Luton do hold on and win the title and Notts County finish in the top 3 I will be no worse off, just took out a bit of insurance.

Thank you again you 2, and good luck with all your punting
Report The Dragon January 17, 2018 7:51 PM GMT
we will have to agree to disagree hippie

if these results are n0t indication a degree of unreliability im not sure what is

Barnet 1 Luton 0
Luton 0 Swindon 3
Luton 0 Coventry 3
Port Vale 4  Luton 0
Chesterfield 2  Luton 0

My point is they do have a tendency of throewing up some very strange results compared to a season where most of their performaces are good. if you look at the above games they did not score in any of them yet they can win other games 7-0, 5-0 ,7-1 etc

you may well be right and they will romp the league and an ew bet looks pretty solid however and it all depends on the degree of risk you wish to take. The funny thing is that their worst performances tend to be against lower end of the league clubs so i wouldnt be counting too many chickens against Morecombe and Grimsby

with regard to port vale they have lost 14 games this season and lie 18th in the table - not exactly a non crappy performance in my boook!- i do apprecite that thet are on a currently upward curve

Have Luton got funds to strenghten squad ?
Report The Dragon January 18, 2018 7:52 PM GMT
from the website \\\\\\\:

Hatters boss Nathan Jones insists he’s not worried by a lack of transfer window movement in or out of Kenilworth Road, as he prepares his table-topping team for Saturday’s home Sky Bet League Two fixture with Morecambe.

Speaking to the local media at this pre-match Press conference at The Brache this afternoon, Jones was asked about any business potentially being done during January.

“We are seeing what’s about,” said the Welshman, whose side are three points clear of second-placed Notts County and eight ahead of fourth-placed Wycombe going into the weekend’s fixtures.

“We are working hard to improve the squad, but there is no panic or anything. We have good numbers, we have good quality and good cover in all places. But if something happens that can improve our squad, then we’ll try and do that.

“We know people we’d like to bring into the squad that we think would improve us. If we don’t get those, then nothing changes. We’ve got to the top of the league with the squad that we’ve got and they’ll hopefully continue to improve and get better, so we are in no great panic.

“We are not looking at great numbers. One or two maybe that would improve us, but they would have to be of a real top level for us to have to bring in. If nothing happens, then we are quite content with what we’ve got.”

Jones was then asked about potential interest in members of his own squad from a higher level.

“I’d imagine we’ve got plenty of interest, but we won’t be selling really, so there’s no negotiations in,” he said. “Next week I imagine will be a crazy week for lots of people coming in with late bids, but that just means our resolve will be stronger because if we were to get a fantastic bid from someone, all it does is just take away from our squad.

“Yes, it gives us money, but if it’s late enough that you can’t spend it then there’s no point.

“So unless something ridiculous came in this week, then we wouldn’t even entertain anything because we’re very settled at the minute. We’ve got a good group, I’m happy with the group and we’ll go from there.”

There could be departures on loan for younger members of the squad, while striker Josh McQuoid remains on the transfer list since returning from his three-month stint at Torquay.

The gaffer added: “We’ve got one or two that will be available as long as we can find the right club for those. Josh McQuoid is one that is available, we’ve said that.

“If we did do a bit of business, then something might come, but at the minute we are not in a rush to move anyone out. It will be the younger ones really that might need a few games and now’s the right time to do it, as we’ll need the recalls as well.”

Looking ahead to Saturday’s game, for which Alan Sheehan will serve the final match of his three-game suspension, Jones will not have winger Luke Gambin, captain Scott Cuthbert or midfielder Alan McCormack back fit, but striker Danny Hylton is expected to return after missing the defeat at Chesterfield last weekend with a hamstring problem.

“Danny’s trained this week, so hopefully he’ll be fully fit and ready to go,” said Jones. “He’d be a big player for anyone outside the Premier League, so it’s good to have him back but we are more than a one-man team.

“It’s just that when he doesn’t play and we play as poorly as we did last week, it highlights that he’s not in the team. But he’s not been in the team on a few occasions this season and we’ve done very very well, so it’s not all about Danny Hylton.”

*Tickets for Saturday's 3pm kick-off against Morecambe are still available from the LTFC ticket office in person, by phone on 01582 416976 or online

Accrington are the ones to watch

Coleman has made a few more shrewd editions to the squad, they look to have very strong forward options

Signing of Guiseleys keeper who did well against them in the FA cup also a good addition.

If Coleman can get some cover in defence, I fully expect Accrington to challenge for the title.

Accrington's biggest weakness is the pitches at this time of the year, they do not help their possession passing game.
Report The Dragon January 19, 2018 3:18 PM GMT
8 pts behind with a game in hand 25/1 may look big if they go on a run which they look like doing with 3 wins on the spin following a very poor run
Report Dav_vin03 January 19, 2018 3:23 PM GMT
27.0 generous IMO

Luton at 1.39 looks very short

Coventry at 55.0 not the worst cover bet

Report hippie January 30, 2018 11:25 PM GMT
Luton aren't wobbling, they're operating without the services of Danny Hylton, the league's top scorer when he picked up the injury. Not such a problem against the likes of Morecambe and Grimsby but a notable absentee against Wycombe who are second only to Luton for goals scored and have topped the form tables for the last 4, 6, 8 and 10 games.

March 10 - Luton are home to Accrington (who have the trickier away fixtures).

Danny Hylton came on for James Collins in the 56th minute yesterday. They've missed his goals so you need him match fit and up to speed asap.
Report Dav_vin03 February 27, 2018 3:56 PM GMT
Accrington played brilliantly away at Coventry but not so well since but keep getting the results.

Next up is Newport, and Newport away has been a bogey game for Accrington since Newport came back into the league, but they should beat Morecambe at home on the following Tuesday in the Lancashire derby.

Not convinced it will remain a 2 horse race, plenty of other good teams capable of winning 12 games in a row - Mansfield still improving with every game

run in look s ok with 8 out of 11 games against bottom half teams.

they are 50 for a reason . too many teams ahead of them and too many points to make up . they will need to go on an amazing rumn and the others all foul up

Luton dropped points today and where lucky to get away with a draw according to reports

James Collins red card a big negative for Luton, he will miss the next 3 games

Accrington 5/6 vs Morecambe on Tuesday night looks value and that price wont be around for long
Likewise, Newport at 11/8 looks ok value vs forest green. Newport much improved this season and forest green are so inconsistent, you never know which forest green team will turn up

Accrington 20/23 on the sportsbook is a generous price
I know its a sort of local derby and it pulls a bigger than usual crowd, but Accy are better all over the pitch than Morecambe

If they lose, I would expect Luton's price to win league 2 to go from 1/4 to 2/1 - might want to be selling prior to the game if you think a defeat is possible
