I can remember a scintillating Brazil team with the likes of Carlos Alberto, Pele, Jairzinho, Rivellino and quite a few others dazzling us with their skills.
Even some of the beaten finalists team spring to mind with Riva and Rivera both excelling against the Germans in the semis.

Germany with the biggest military spendings of the continent. I'm not entirely convinced that'd be too popular with France, the UK, and most of all, Germany itself.

obviously most police forces in europe don't need much excuse to wade in but struggling to remember any other english club having problems in madrid recently

It's actually pretty simple really. Majority of the time when fans moan about heavy handed force it's because they were doing something idiotic in the first place. Sometimes you will get a few fans caught up in an area where others were being idiotic, but if you're hearing fans chanting about 10 German bombers and Gibraltar in Spain, it's time to leave anyway.
